Add varying velocities and swing. That "natural" sound you seek is human imperfection.

Well I master in the Box and get decent results.. Sometimes I use Izotope (usually only the mastering reverb) sometimes I don't depends on the track. I prefer using individual plug-ins that I know well... Like the Bundle from sonalksis, Dada Life's sausage fattener can work well at times, I have the psp vintage warmer and I have the waves tape saturation plugin for that warm analogue sound.

But yeah I'll post some examples

It's deffo worth it. I had my album properly mastered (attended) and it was incredible. Nowt wrong with the box (although I personally don't like the sound of Izotope), but the real deal sounds so much better.

Re: Free Mastering

Just a set of low end KRKs.

I've seen lots of posts on the forum about mastering and complaint about song not sounding loud enough. So I'm trying to help those people.

I'm offering these mastering service for people who don't know how to at all. Because everywhere you go you will have to pay. I'm not a professional mastering engineer but I've been learning and am at a point where I'm comfortable to extend it to others. I'm doing it for free not because I want to start a mastering service. But because when I couldn't master at all I would've liked firstly someone to master my tracks and secondly someone who told me what they did in the mastering process

To be frank chap, and I really don't mean this rudely, just my practical opinion, it's not worth mastering without at least a good set of nearfields (full range really) and a very well balanced room. You could maximise with Waves L3 or similar but anyone can do that. Mastering is about fine tuning and if you don't have clean reference in the first place it's just not worth it.

I'm not charging money there's absolutely nothing to lose. For that reason it's worth it. I don't what you mean when you say that it's not worth it.

Re: Free Mastering

Becasue you can't make sound judgements on an unbalanced setup, therefore you cannot correctly master. Therefore it's purpose cannot be fulfilled. Therefore not worth it.

Re: Free Mastering

Look it's either going to make your track sound better or worse. If you don't like how it sounds, well there's no issue then is there?

I think the OP just wants some hands-on and feedback. In the process of doing all this they might well come to realise that there are certain hardware / software / knowledge requirements which they need to further investigate. I really don't see a problem with someone wanting to get some experience, even if their gear is inadequate. Equipment is expensive and takes time to acquire.

Re: Free Mastering

I get what you saying. But either way I'm providing the service. I don't think you can get a professional quality master for free. I'm realy just master good enough to send to label and so that that you can play on club systems.

This.
We all had to start somewhere. Having feedback, correction, some pressure, deadline, etc while gaining new insights/knowledge will only push one forward. If it's free, then what is there to complain about? There are plenty of "professional MEs" out there (with great gear, pimped website, cool studio photos, etc) that deliver mediocre masters for an average sum of money.

Re: Free Mastering

It's all fair guys, reading back my comments I think I did come across too harshly, I was rushing and didn't think through properly how what I was writing would come across. My purpose was to express concern for the OP because developing a good balance is difficult enough with a great setup and I've seen plenty of people become frustrated when trying to do a job in difficult circumstances.

Best of luck with getting some experience under your belt chap.

Re: Free Mastering

hey man - yer givin people a free service. Even without the 'right' equipment, you might still do better than a dude who doesn't know how to master at all. Heck, a dj just asked me to master a mix of his, I did it, and I did a better job than his last guy. Guess what, I did it on krk rockit 6's and just used the psp vintage warmer 2 and izotope. I understand what people mean about you know 'legit mastering' and all, and that's nice, but if you want to practice mastering and you don't have those things, you've got to work with what you have. And believe it or not, there's still plenty to learn.

And maybe some day you will get that acoustically perfect room, some fun hardware, and some better monitors, until then, enjoy yourself.

And hey, if you want dude, i'm down to try a master of the same track and do some comparisons, compare notes. Let me know if you are interested

The 2 most critical reasons why people who are ready use a professional.

Without a full range system you will never know how it will sound like on a club system. It's a free world and doing something for free demonstrates a good attitude. However it should not be confused with actual mastering. To master you must have all possible sonic information presented otherwise the definition "to master" is incorrect in use.

Laurend, you enquire about the OP's monitoring, a little rich considering your "Mastering Robot "algo is without monitoring, no ?

It is completely understandable why the value of mastering is misunderstood by many. Ultimately people find out when they need to.

For a little perspective I spent 1,000.00 on a power amplifier this week. Why? Cause I know when my PMC IB1S are at 85 dBSPL and that dubstep tracks bottom end is doing it's thing I need to know if there is distortion on the actual track during processing and not from amp or speakers. Mastering is about knowing not guessing.
