as said, find the right samples to start off with. if you are describing a sound as metal sounding then look for metal sounding hits, or better still, metal things being hit.
layer different parts of different hits to get one sweet hit that you like. and dont be scared to spend hours mastering one hit. once youre finished making this hit you will have it in your library for a lifetime.
if you have recording equipment, record all things metal, or whatever else you want to use. and once again, layer.
and dont be shy when it comes to using non drum sounds in your hits. you cant make drums like you are describing using actual drum hits (sorry meow
