What is an audiophile? Wouldn't we all count as audiophiles?
Well. If the solder we use to connect our bespoke, handmade balanced cable connectors costs $2,000 per inch because it's made from an alloy using 95% pure gold because it reduces the signal to noise ratio by 0.0000005dB SPL... Then yes. We all count as audiophiles.
heh, I've seen an audiophile throw a tantrum over the voltage of the power going into his system to justify a power conditioner, I immediately thought something along the lines of "power nazi".
Actually, though, something pretty good did come out of the audiophile world recently: multibit R2R dacs got affordable. I don't understand the math/engineering myself, but they're supposed to be noticeably better than "normal" dacs, and I'm interested in using one in production. Schiit has them down to $250 now, so I'm gonna try to get one at the end of the year. I was thinking about posting that in the other audiophile thread, but it didn't seem in spirit. Idk, maybe this should be it's own thread. But yeah, mostly that first bit.
