i'm currently digging algorithmic composition with focus on rhythms, and I wonder which are your strategies in timed events/triggers generation. Euclidean rhythms? Markov chains? macro sequencing with micro randomness? probably distributed events with hi level controls?
What, how and why?
I've never been able to get those plugins to work, Populus in particular. No idea what I'm doing wrong.
Yeah, it can be a bit tricky. As they are midi plugins, they send midi info. You set the midi track to recieve info from the xoxos plugin (instead of your midi keyboard/padcontrol/etc). Then the individual xoxs plugins send on different midi channels, which might not correlate to the midi channel that the synth/sampler plugin is recieving. This is usually where it fucks up for me.
I've also read that some DAWs have trouble doing this (recieving midi from a midi plugin). I use them in Cubase and Jeskola Buzz without any problem though.
Personally, I'm really liking Kymatica's Sector at the moment and I'm working on creating something similar in M4L. It gives you the tools to randomize like mad but also to bring everything back under control so you can get something useful out of it. If you've got an iPad, I'd check it out for inspiration.
