Be careful with that; you might accidentally condition yourself to get turned on every time you hear pink noise. That could mess with your future love life.

Also, if someone does walk in, you have to maintain eye contact with them while you finish. If you don't get in this habit you'll never be able to finish your tracks.

Re: 'Resetting' your ears

I've found that getting a good night's sleep and just leaving it for awhile (listening to other things in the meanwhile is another good idea) does the trick of 'resetting your hearing' quite nicely multiple times in the past & present.

Re: 'Resetting' your ears

Go to an art gallery.
I'm fucking dead serious.
After mixing for hours or days on end
If you go to an art gallery
The ambient noise + visual input + vaguely creative inspiration + mostly mind-numbing dullness
Collude to put you in a completely unparalleled trancelike state of calm.
And once you snap out of it and return home you're all revved up and totally ready to go.
If art galleries are not your thing then
Go somewhere that's quiet AND that will stimulate your non-auditory senses.
A public library is great for this too.

Re: 'Resetting' your ears

if you got time on your hands, mushrooms
if you're in a hurry, dmt

resets your ears, mind, soul, priorities, life, perspective, goals, self esteem, motivation etc...

joking aside (although it does work, but everybody knows drugs are bad, right?), when I'm fed up with working on a beat, I just start working on something different and get back to it later.

Every now and then, nothing comes up for days, sometimes months, it's normal and I just do something else, photography, video, stuff like that.

Re: 'Resetting' your ears

Honestly I just listen to my stuff on different speakers. The way it colors it usually fixes my ears and gives me a new perspective at the same time. Usually I'll send it in an email to myself and jam in the car on the way to do something. You could, as other stated, listen to other musics.

IF you plan on fapping to reset your ears, you know just fapping alone won't work right? You need to reset your ears - which we all know that sound is vibrations. So you are going to need a vibrating plug to help reset your body's feelings towards vibrations. Make sure it has an oscillating speed.

Re: 'Resetting' your ears

I tend to enjoy 15-30 minutes of silence, so the cells in the inner ear have time to reload (a couple of different ions which have to load up again, so the ear can produce electric potential). That is kind of the biological reset.
For the brain part (more of the perception reset), try meditation or a rather visual or physical activity for some time (again 15-30m), so your auditory cortex has time to recover and your inner EQ levels itself.

Re: 'Resetting' your ears

this is frustrating.

I take breaks like every 5 minutes or so, take a sip of lean with Xanax pills in it while snorting cocaine, then get back to work, but I never really give myself time to 'reset' my ears.

hmmm, maybe I should work on this.

yeah, I bought a macbook so that I could make music in more interesting locations and on the go, and it works great. I also really enjoy like watching abletons videos on youtube where someone makes a beat in like five minutes and it sounds great, I know that's not how things work, but it does inspire me.
