Scyn nailed it, when he described this as "calm and introspective"..but I'm going to add onto that "very refreshing". It's nice to find something like this..well put together, complete with vocals (..good voice, by the way.) Really liked it a lot..and would have downloaded it for sure, if I had been able to..
Can't wait to hear what else you have to offer us.
when this endeavour is complete I'll master and release via bandcamp, you can download then! If i indeed complete 14 tunes for this I'll make it like a 5 dollar/pay what you will kind of thing, but make sure that everyone who is actively working on this on IDMF gets a "download coupon". Not trying to make cash off you you dudes!
I've got the guitar bass and drum parts together for #2 need to let those marinate while I go out to run some errands and consider lyrical content. if all goes well this evening I'll post #2.
You always sculpt really fantastic guitar tones. The wash of the guitar textures on this is great. I really need to start doing some small vocal parts at least. I like the drum sounds quite a bit. They have a fuzzy texture that I think fits the track well. No offense to anyone else, but I think this might be one of my favorite FAWM tunes so far.
as for my guitar tones, its all guitar rig EOS verb and Ableton's Native Reverb.
oh, I recently started using TAL's "Juno chorus" in my guitar fx chain. great for subtle modulation of big verbs.
I play either my strat, which i have modded with a slim humbucker in the bridge position, or a cheapo danelectro U3 reissue with lipstick pickups (its great for single note leads that cut through a mix).
I only recently parted with my Hohner ES335 replica, too dark a tone for all the FX i use.
Wow, love that. If you made this more hazy and disoriented I would say it sounds kind of Slowdive-ish. Very nice! I really, really, really love it. I would definitely download and listen to this again.
Slowdive is one of my favorite bands... EVER. more so than Aphex Twin or Skinny Puppy (if you know me that might come as a surprise)
i actually have a 5 or 6 song demo in the works that I have back-burnered for this FAWM thing that is SO Slowdive.
Actually more of a Slowdive meets Deftones (minus the screaming part) meets the Cure's drummer and bass player.
I'll derail this thread for a second to share this, its been private for about a month, this is the direction of the next record I want to work on. (sorry, but i am totally excited about this project and its hard to keep it ALL under wraps)
My FAWM tunes are really just fodder for this project's future. You know, writing songs instead of tracks.
My friend who got me started and going in making electronic music loves Slowdive as well. He introduced me to them and they are really spectacular. This really sounds great, I look forward to listening to what else you have and I will definitely be checking out your album when it is time.
...also the melancholy guitar strumming is definitely Cure like as well. Love the tone and everything about it.
Oh my word, Loved the guitar and drums on the first track. The guitar was really well done, The vocals were aswell. The whole vibe of it is so calm and interesting. Same feelings for the second track too, Really liking it. Good stuff man
I'll say this wasn't what I was expecting to hear. It feels like you put yourself into the lyrics. The guitar play is nice, too.
It's funny that you mention Deftones(I don't know the other group you mention) because this feels like music I would have heard from the 90's period. Thinking you're my age now, haha. And there's nothing wrong with putting a bit of your electronic touch into your "real" instruments. Going to listen to the 2nd one now.
EDIT - With some cleaning up, I could see this being pretty awesome.
