For me it was a Bontempi "Electric Chord Organ".

Here's a demo (not my video):

Re: What Was Your First Hardware Synth?

Access virus C bought it new around 2002 from Turnkey London,
I'd never tried one and bought it due to all the hype.
Everything I did with it either sounded trancey or Cheesy hence why I have never used it in a track and I still own it today.

I did buy a quasi-midi 309 before that if it qualifies as a synth ? Again from Turnkey and still got that too.

Re: What Was Your First Hardware Synth?

My first synth was a Korg ER-1, a great little synth that I wish I still had today. It had a very distinct sound and was bulletproof.

Re: What Was Your First Hardware Synth?

Korg Microkorg

Used it for 7 years until the cutoff knob began to start randomly changing values (so sad)

Made room for my Korg MS-20 Reissue....1/4" jacks and USB make me very happy.

Y'all have some really fun toys...I would love to play with most of these synths...I'm surprised there aren't more microkorgs listed. Seems like the perfect entry level synth. Maybe a little expensive..

The Microkorg was my second keyboard synth, it sounded really good. I wish I still had it to be honest.

Re: What Was Your First Hardware Synth?

I can't remember the name of it, it was some Casio keyboard that you could mix a couple of waveforms together with a pretty lousy ADSR and cutoff. It sucked and eventually just got used to hold important pieces paper between the keys.

Try a lowpassed square wave, moron.

Re: What Was Your First Hardware Synth?

Korg EA1. It was a revelation. The only experience I had ever had at that point with a sequencer was a Kurzweil sequencer that I had access to because my dad's band mate was too lazy to move his k2000 back and forth for rehearsals and it lived at our house for a few months. Started a love affair with step sequencers that continues to this day.

Re: What Was Your First Hardware Synth?

Roland D5 - I bought it off my high school music department for $5. My brother has kindly kept it safe for the last 15 years, and it's featured all over this EP but particularly nicely over this track: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]
