I only found something about a developer cloning Maths and selling it for $35, not sure that's what he's referring to.

Edit: I'd actually pay for some Make Noise VCV Rack modules.

Ah yes, those are the modules. Problem is, the guy apparently didn´t ask Make Noise for permission and he isnt´t even answering them regarding the situation.
It´s all on the Muff and Facebook.

Thanks guys..appreciate the follow up.

@ Auto: Yeah..that looks well worth it..tempting. Shit, wish I'd come across it before you guys drew my attention to the fact it's a "knock off" of sorts. Still..

Rampage is amongst other Befaco modules included in VCV Rack.

Btw which mixer module are you guys using for mixing signals into the Audio Interface module? I'm using the one from Befaco which was there since the beginning.
Any better choices I've missed?

Yeah..think I'm beginning to. Was farting around with that Gate thingy for a few hours late last night..didn't really record anything, but..boy..was it fun! Got some really interesting sounds going with it.

I feel this is going to be one of those "lifetime to master" things, though..in a good way. Like you port over what you know from using synths and apply it to the rack system, but you need to kinda think in a different way to get where you want to go..obviously.

There's been a lot of fumbling around to see "what dose this thing do if I plug this in there" kinda of thing..but it's coming together..slowly..I think. I kinda get now why folks get hooked on the whole euro-rack thing.

Re: VCV - Free open source virtual Eurorack!

Besides that this software somehow makes people forget they're actually just moving the mouse around, it also sounds amazing!
Try for example Vessek (VA OSC), or Trummor (Drum Voice) from Vult (basically everything from Vult is ace!) or the MI modules or the Befaco stuff.

I can't seem to get it to work in a DAW, it appears in my VST list but won't open in Ableton. Standalone works just fine though.. I'm gonna keep trying to get this one to work, looks worth it.

Re: VCV - Free open source virtual Eurorack!

Slightly off topic, but still related..I see music producer / software developer Björn Arlt, of [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]
fame, is currently working on a VST modular synth called ModulAir. For anyone who hasn't heard of Björn before, the guy has a long and respected history, when it comes to making VSTs and has in the past taken part in the KVR challenge, ModulAir isn't released yet, but the demo vid looks and sounds promising. One to keep an eye on I think.

As you can see, it lacks patch cables, but still seems to capture the basic essence of a modular system very well. Not sure though if this will be offered free, like most of his other programs. But, if his past offerings are anything to go by, then this should be worth grabbing when it comes out.

It's available in beta now and pretty effing awesome for a free plugin imho, have been playing around with it and I like the sound and simple workflow, even though patch size is limited since you can only use up to 18 modules per patch:

ModulAir is a work in progress, unfinished, buggy, as of now with only a few quirky presets. Expect horrible things to happen. It is a clumsy unhandy complicated piece of software.

You have been warned! :-)

Anyway, ModulAir is currently in Beta stage. I am not sure if it ever reaches the General Availability stage since I am constantly adding modules and stuff to it.

Re: VCV - Free open source virtual Eurorack!

Anybody able to get it to send stuff to multiple audio interfaces? Interfacing with hardware? Any Cubase users?

It looks like I can potentially integrate it into what I'm doing in so many ways, but at this point I can't seem to get all those ways to all run in the same project due to some conflict with running multiple audio destinations. Granted, the developers themselves say to do this at your own risk and the whole thing hasn't even hit 1.0 and it's free, so can't really complain. But still, so close...

You can but yes its a flaky mess with using 2 of the audio modules in VCV.

The best way I can think of, which is what I do, is use VCV rack standalone, running parallel to Ableton (cubase would be fine too) then I have 2 motu audio interfaces. VCV rack uses 1 and ableton the other. However, I also have a mac so I can make 2 or more interfaces work as 1.

With this type of setup, I use VCV and Motu #2 to send and receive CV signals mostly (but audio as well) and Ableton and Motu #1 to do the tracking and recording of the set.

I dont need to worry about keeping ableton and VCV rack in sync as I use mostly hardware and use ableton as master clock to my hardware and my hardware sends a CV clock to VCV.

Obviously, you'll need a motu or equivalent interface that has DC coupled audio ins/outs to accept/send CV signals.

I've seen the MOTUs recommended before, do you have any experience with the Expert Sleepers stuff? I've been pricing out euroracks for the past week or so and I was thinking I'd use that to get audio and CV back and forth. The audio is the important thing for me as I'm most impressed by rossum's morpheus filter and would like to use that to process audio from ITB, but then it would make sense to use my automation clips from there as well. Using FL studio on windows FWIW.

There's an official "Bridge" that allows sending midi and audio from/to your DAW that works ok. And also someone forked the code and developed a VSTi version of it. I still haven't gotten around to trying it:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]

I kind of gave up on it for now. Using 2 different audio modules doesn't work for me at all and I don't have a dc-coupled interface that would allow me to use it for both sending and receiving CV and audio. On my RME UCX only the headphone output is dc-coupled, so I can only send CV or Gates through 2 outs. Then I have my Roland Bitrazer which does have dc-coupled inputs and outputs, but my monitors are hooked up to the UCX, so I still need to use 2 audio modules to be able to hear shit. Though as I'm typing it, I guess I can at least use it for CV only, so still need to play around with that. So, yeah, I can still get some use out of it. But I realized I was spending way too much time trying to troubleshoot it, which is stupid since I have all these semi-modulars sitting here that I still haven't fully explored and the whole point of buying those was to get away from the computer for a bit in the first place.
So I think I'll wait until the the first version comes out and I'll revisit it again. Maybe shit will be more stable by then. Or maybe the VSTi version is actually solid enough already, so I should try that too.

Never used the Expert Sleepers interfaces, but I do use the Distings MK4 with midi in/out expander. (I have 2).

They are great devices tho. I’d assume the same for their interfaces.

If you just want to send audio in/out to hardware, then just a standard interface would work. But, a used MOTU untralight or even an older 828 would have a lot more options. My $0.02 but I’m a fan of MOTU.
