Is it cheap to use an arp as main melody

using arps can make great sounds but if thats your main hook is it cheap?

As in sure it can sound cool but its not very creative maybe all you done was hold c then a then d then back to c.

Yet this gated arp or whatver makes something cool.

IF you play a pure sound and try to create melodies its more original.

Re: Is it cheap to use an arp as main melody

I use them for ideas but normally end up programming the arpeggio (and variations of it in a minor key) in by hand later. I usuall use arpeggiators just for same-octave step sequencing bass lines because I hate all the penciling-in of 16 notes on a midi grid and I'm sure as hell not gonna go dun dun dun dun dun dun on a keyboard, you'll usually have to edit that mess anyway unless you're billy fekkin joel.

If you spent as much time making music as worrying about "the rules" you would be so much better off. Who fucking cares? Make music. Get a response. If people like it, then keep doing it. If people don't, do something else.

I can, if I just change the BPM when recording it.

Still, but I prefer the character of my arpeggiations that I've played versus the ones that I've sequenced. Then there's also the amazing output you can get when a competent player is paired with an interesting and responsive arpeggiator.

Re: Is it cheap to use an arp as main melody

1st rule of music, is there are no rules for making music.

That said, the thing about arpeggios is they are only an addition to the chord progression you are applying them to.
Low brow power chords will only get you so far.

Re: Is it cheap to use an arp as main melody

If I want like an arp lead, I'll usually make it chords first, as if you had an arp synth, then just use the arp tool on fl instead, so I can edit small details, like chaning up the last beat in a bar or something.

I wouldn't call it cheap either way though, if it fits, youre set.

Yea. But my point is all your posts are basically asking if something is right or wrong, or against the rules or if you are "allowed" to do something.

Bro.

(and yes I threw a fuck word in there, but only out of frustration about these kinds of posts in general)
