Scarlett 2i4 > Ableton > Guitar pedal > problem

Hi, I've been trying send an audio signal from Ableton (Ext. Out > 1) to a guitar pedal (distortion), by the output 1 (TS) from my Scarlett 2i4 interface, then sending it back to input 1 of my interface at line level. I then create an audio track with audio from input 1 (Ext.In > 1).

The problem is that the only thing i hear from the new track is the feedback of the distortion pedal when i turn it up. It plays no input of the first track at all. The only time that I hear that feedback is when i turn monitoring IN on the second track.

Anyone can help me? I want to play sound from Ableton to distortion pedal, back through Ableton. Thanks.

I'm trying to route things like this guy:

I followed the video and it works for me, did you turn monitoring on for the MIDI track?

Yeah, I tried that.

Could it be because I use a TS cable for the balance output instead of a TRS? Or it shouldn't really matter?

The thing is that the input from de distortion pedal reach input 1, but the output of my interface doesn't reach the pedal.

Check the Focusrite mix control software.

Re: Scarlett 2i4 > Ableton > Guitar pedal > problem

I was having similar issues using a delay pedal with my scarlett 18i20. I believe my remedy was getting the right setting in the mix control software and also making sure to have the switch on the input set to the right type of signal (pad/instrument).

Unfortunately MixControl doesn't work on my MacBook Pro. It just says " No hardware connected".

I used a focusrite scarlett once, and it was horrible, after I sent the first one back and got a new one I realized its the audio interface itself and that you get what you pay for, That thing is a hunk of junk if you ask me. I am better off with out it

The problem I had was it played the left channel through both left and right channels while using the headphones (this was the problem for both interfaces), I contacted ableton's support and Sweetwater's support to no avail. that to me is really annoying and a sign of a really crappy design

In my opinion I would get rid of it, get your money back, then save and invest in something better

I don't think my interface is compatible with MixControl as I have Scarlett 2i4, so everything is hardware based and should work.

I also tried with a TRS cable to no avail.

It seems i can't get output from output 1 of my interface. Maybe my routing is wrong? I'm not quite knowledgeable in the realm of routings.

Re: Scarlett 2i4 > Ableton > Guitar pedal > problem

On the 2i4 make sure you have the monitor knob set to playback and not input. if you have the input/playback knob set to "input" you're effectively creating a feedback loop within the HW unit.

As for feedback in Ableton, you'll need to make sure that you are routing your audio to the pedal from a physical output you're not using to go to your speakers. You could send your signal to be processed out of output 3 and then back into the interface, so you can listen out of 1 and 2 without sending that signal back into the pedal... creating the loop.

Hope this makes sense.
