Anyone here ever quit coffee?

This is so fucking hard to do.

I quit smoking 5 weeks ago, no sweat, tried to follow it up with quitting coffee and lasted about a day. I've tried numerous times since then, getting no further than 3 or so days and then falling into a massive caffeine relapse. Just curious as to weather anyone has tips or knows how long the agony lasts, who has done this before. God damn I am a fail. Thanks lads

I'm not into coffee, but I'm addicted as hell to coca-cola.

Same thing really. I just broke the soda habit early and opted for coffee as my caffeine-erator of choice

I'm afraid I'll end up with diabetes from all the coke.

Re: Anyone here ever quit coffee?

I had to quit coffee when I wanted to quit smoking, as I could not drink coffee without a ciggie.
It made it twice as hard.
Replace it with water, every time you feel like a coffee, have a nice glass of water and remove all the things you associate with coffee.

Chew stuff, have apples.

Moving away from Florida might also help. It's a stressful place.. makes one want to indulge in vices like there's no tomorrow.. Wish I would've moved away sooner!

Re: Anyone here ever quit coffee?

Just buy a jar of decaffeinated coffee. That way, if its the caffeine that fucks you up, you can still drink it and feel fine.

If you really want to quit, its often easier to slowly phase addictions out than suddenly stop. Have 1 cup less a day for a week, then the next week 2 cups less, then the next week 3 less etc.

The shits coffee gives me mixed with the insomnia + the shakes and sweats I get is enough to put me off having more than 1-2 cups a day. 3 cups is seizure inducing levels.

Re: Anyone here ever quit coffee?

I did it a few years ago. It wasn't mentally hard, but it caused really bad flu-like symptoms for a day. But I didn't feel any better after quitting. Quite the opposite. I started having headaches so I started drinking again Now I drink 3 to 4 cups of coffee per day and I enjoy every sip of it. And NO HEADACHES anymore.

But if you really want to quit drinking it, then you should replace it with water like Automageddon said.

For how long did you stay off it?

Your body gets used to getting that caffeine and other chemicals from an external source and so when you cut that off, it takes time for your body to realize it needs to regulate itself in those matters once more. The flu-like feelings the day after were just the more obvious signs of withdrawal; some aspects of withdrawal aren't so quick and obvious.

either way I never had trouble quitting coffee because I never started drinking it, shit made me gag from the first time I smelled it and trying it was way worse. Awful nasty bitter shit it is.

Re: Anyone here ever quit coffee?

I have the complete opposite problem to you. Quit drinking coffee quite easily, just started hammering the water bottle on my desk. It didn't really bug me much. I very occasionaly will have a coke if I need a caffeine hit. But quitting smoking is just impossible for me. I have been trying to quit on and off for 3 years now and it just gets worse each time I try and quit. I've had two days without a cig in the last year. And there has been very few days where its been less than 10. I just don't know how to do it, every method doesn't work. But good luck quitting coffee it is difficult to give something up.

The method that works is just stopping.

No matter how you do it your body is going to freak out because, as I said above, it's used to having those external chemicals.

You can try phasing it out slowly but personally I tend to do things the hard way, so my natural inclination is to just go cold turkey.

I didn't drink for almost a year. But I have migraines, maybe that's why I have less headaches when I drink coffee.

Good call on the apples. I usually drink shit loads of water, and even moreso when I quit coffee but it never makes it any better. Then again, I do understand I'm being a pussy about it

I'm a Philly-suburbs native who wound up here in '09, probably around this time of year. Florida sucks, but I think my problems are within. In fact, moving here made me quit smoking weed & gave me more incentive to quit cigs because I realized most of these assholes suck at life, and I'm more hellbent on improving mine than ending up here for the rest of my life.

Yeah man, I tried the tapering method so many times but I usually end up drinking more than I would have if I just relaxed and didn't try to quit at all!

Cold turkey might be my only route, but that's a really good fallback plan. My insomnia is at it's peak now, and 3 cups does ruin me... addictions suck!

I'm not sure how many teaspoons of sugar are packed in a cup of coke, but partly why I'm such a wreck is because I load down a tad more than 8 .oz with like 3-4 teaspoons, THEN pour on the creamer which probably has more, and I'm left with a tad bit of coffee chilling with a cup full of damaged sugar. I'd probably be better off drinking coke myself!

The headaches are supposedly a withdrawal symptom... and pretty much 1/2 of my problem (the other one being sleeping all goddamned day... then there's the stomach trouble... make that 1/3!). That's really why it's so hard. I can break a habit, but if there were a god with some kind of decency these symptoms wouldn't even exist to cripple and compromise addictive people like me.

Coffee = villain

o_O Doesn't exactly sound positive... and why are you getting away from everythin that could possibly make you happy & then wondering why you're having trouble with quitting ?

So are you in north or south florida?

Yeah man, I can't believe I even got away from smoking for over a month now. I'll never look back. If I were to take the same approach I guess I'd just have to bite the bullet and face the symptoms like a trooper... and I read mixed reviews about which is harder, so for my sake I'm hoping you're right!

Although I only smoked for less than 2 years when I quit, that could have something to do with it. Coffee however flows through my veins =)

North, right outside of Daytona to be exact. I didn't really mean to end up here (nobody does, I'm quite sure!), but it's not too bad of a place. I just like to rid myself of impurities, and coffee is definitely ruining my life.
