Re: Major Key Chord Progressions Chart

This is really useful. I've had a major frustration this week when I had the first 3 chords of a progression down, could 'hear' the fourth chord in my head, but couldn't find it on the keyboard. I'm going to see if what I'm looking for is a common progression.

The minor chord progression table on the same page is really useful too. I don't tend to write in major:-)

Re: Major Key Chord Progressions Chart

Yes. Quite useful. This is basically just the "three-pie-slices-chart chords" of the good old circle of fifths (don't know the english word for it) - where you take the three majors (tonic, dominant and subdominant) and its relative minors.

For C that will be G and F, and relative Dm, Am, Em. Then you can rotate these 3/6 chords any way you want:

Re: Major Key Chord Progressions Chart

This is indeed useful. Minor chords are usually written in lower case, so in this chart Am = vi instead of VI. Packs more understanding in. Thanks for sharing!

Re: Major Key Chord Progressions Chart

hello

Thanks for the links I'm trying the major easiest chords un my DAW to see how it sounds

I've come accross this hook theory website. Is it worth purchasing it if I have no knowledge of chords and melodies?

Re: Major Key Chord Progressions Chart

Learning the Major scale pattern will really help. Distance between 2 notes. wwhwwwh will really help.
EX. C-D = whole, D-E = whole, E-F = Half, and so forth.

Agreed... and thank you for that!

Understanding the difference between half-steps and whole-steps is extremely important; here is some more on the subject.

HALF-STEPS
Look at the piano keyboard. A half-step is the distance from any note to the adjacent note, whether black or white. E-F and B-C are know as the "Natural Half-Steps" because they use white keys/notes. The white notes are referred to by their letter name and the term Natural, Example B-Natural or C-Natural.

The other half-steps on the keyboard will be from white to black or black to white. Example: C-Natural to D-Flat. Notice I didn't say C-Sharp! that's because scales and intervals are always spelled in Alphabetical Order! Remember this rule and you will never again be confused by the difference between sharps and flats.

WHOLE STEPS
Simply two half-steps. Examples C-Natural to D-Natural or E-Flat to F-Natural or A-flat to B-Flat (and believe it or not.. A-Sharp to B-Sharp!)

Once you understand the above you will know why the note that looks like a B-Natural is actually a C-Flat in the key of A-Flat Minor. Spelling is the Key to understanding Keys!

If you are curious about that... let me know and I will show you how to get there...
