soundforge ain't a daw its an audio editor.

The only artist I know that has used it as a daw is burial.

The benefits of using this wave editor is that if you know it, you know it (like Jon Hopkins, who runs[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]
).

I use Wavelab because I know it and like it. I used to use Soundforge back in the day. Others might use Audacity, Wavosaur, Adobe Audition, Goldwave, BIAS Peak, etc

I used to use Sound Forge for mastering. It's destructive, so what you're hearing is always exactly what you've got - I can't say the same for Cubase! It's also easy to see what you're dealing with in great detail. However I now feel its a step I don't need. Everything in Cubase now. I have Sound Forge at workand it still gets used for some minor editing jobs, but nothing like as much as it used to be.

It's definitely not a DAW.

i liked soundforge back in the days, i knew my way around, do simple single track or sample editing, damn the mouse wheel and controls to zoom in, check your wave, etc were good and efficient

but no benefits of using this really

I still use it for chopping samples. I tried giving it up for a while, but it's always been quick and intuitive for me to use a combo of keyboard shortcuts and the mouse I can scan a track and chop out what want. It's extremely fast and easy for me. Occasionally I also fool around with the SF FXs to make variations of the samples I'm chopping.

I read many interviews about Jon Hopkins and his recording techniques. Looks like Evelon already beat me to it but I just wanted to mention that it's all about how you use the tools. Some people use gameboys to make music...

Gameboys are the future, man. Joking (a little) but yeah that point illustrates how you can achieve sexy sexy versatility. LSDJ for gameboy, FL for pc, rhythm8 for psp. Fun toys to mess around with.

So, how is it FL Studio gets lumped in as a "toy"? :shitstorm:

Re: Why do people use SoundForge? What are its benefits compared to other DAWs?

I've used Sound Forge for editing samples. It's benefits are that it is an audio editor, in fact, and not a DAW. It's not really for making music (although I have used it as such). It's designed to work on samples or files outside the context of making a song.
