Re: Boards of Canada

I was disappointed with MHTRTC after all the raving about it.

Seems fairly bland apart from a few stand out tracks, nothing has eclipsed ROYGBIV for me.

Hmm...very interesting indeed... I'm not sure. Anybody?

The only other artists or groups out there that I can think of that challenge BoC in their own subgenre are Casino Versus Japan, or Freescha. Funnily CvJ did an album with Freescha not too long ago. I can't find the bloody album for love nor money, though!
cvj split an Ep with freescha if thats what your talking about, its pretty solid in my opinion, however far from their best. i'd check out Eric's work with scott beschta under the name roomates, Its easily his best collaboratio n to date.

As far as BOC goes, the only update I've seen recently is a few new shirts on their site.

Re: Boards of Canada

word is they are working on a new album, but considering that they live on opposite ends of the globe, it might take awhile, but i do remembe them mentioning that it wouldn't be such a long wait between the albums (but could have talked about the ep too). either way i am looking forward to what they might produce. the why? remix was nice.

Re: Boards of Canada

I think it would be absolutely wonderful if they release another album this year.

Could you imagine it?

In 2008, all the heavy hitter IDM artists come out with serious, amazing releases?

Re: Boards of Canada

My personal favorite release, end to end, is easily "In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country ". It's only 4 tracks, 24 mins long, but geez, just, amazing. I can listen to those 4 songs over and over and over again at just about any time (though, they are especially fun when you are just about to go to sleep, or are really sick and hopped up on med's...)

Could not agree more with you, easily my favroite ep I've ever purchased. Amo Bishop Roden followed by In A Beautiful Place is simply amazing. However I don't really think Zoetrope really belongs, its a good track in all but dosen't really blend in that well

Yeah, the split EP is the one....and now I've got hold of it, I agree it ain't their best. For CvJ it's still 'Whole Numbers Play The Basics', and Freescha it's 'Head Warlock Double Stare'.

Nothing seems to be happening on the BoC front. Their website is a disgrace, and the only little sign that something new was imminent was a little note on the BoC Wikipedia page about someone saying there was something...err...imminent. But that's now been edited out of the article, so that's just bloody great.

I could always go for a wee walk to the Hexagon Sun studio on the other side of Edinburgh from me and pester them.

No, turquoise hexagon sun is not a reference to a star of David. I believe it references their studio.

It just goes to show that there are as many reasons to like BoC as there are fans
