this is based on a song of mine on guitar/vocals. ive enjoyed performing the song twice, first time sitting on the floor with guitar/pedals (not messing with them all throughout tho. just one delay glitch timewarp moment / minute, with the guitar part at 2:12. for the second time i prepared the crux of this beat and played with it. tried to watch the transitions onscreen which i had colored to help me through the song but i still kind of screwed it up a bit.
so this is that backtrack continued. a whole part on guitar i left out in the middle, which i'd still be interested to hear how it sounds with midi guitar... the part at the end sounds very different from how it sounds played. messing with distortion settings is fun with that. kind of annoying that in automating the scream 4 dist. type there is an audible lag, so you have to duplicate it out to do this seamlessly.. but nice that then it allows you to mess with them each separately.
i posted links to the videos i sampled and wrote a bit about em for whatever reason. but in case you want to just listen as you might otherwise without knowing, i separated them. the first one for example is a funny surprise.
0.50 is a really delicious looking curry stew chicken recipe video. he's got this awesome accent, i was looking through cooking videos for some offhand random character thing, and this was perfect. he has this mc carib accent and that last line of his... *stir stir* listen to that bubblin.... bubblin aWAYY! yes. i love sampling things that are visual so i like the cooking narrative and ambience.
2.30 is from this collection of interviews on LSD. kind of cheesy, but hilarious.
this is about a girl with cerebral palsy who smokes weed to control the symptoms. she talks about regaining control of certain muscles and speech etc.
this is a guy describing his synesthesia
this is a woman who had a near death experience appearing on this show describing it. i cracked up when i got to the part after a commercial break "... you asked Jesus why there is pain in the world.... what answer did you get?" might still like to separate the question and answer in the song, it'd be tantalizing. her answer is simple and true to me so its a nice idea to meditate on for a sec.
Yeah I would definitely like to minimize some of the samples. I would rather not feel like I need to preface "I know it's cheesy but yes, this..." so I think for example the "LSD....LSD helps you understand......LSD helps you understand your own mind.....it releases your mind to you..." may find its way out of the track. not sure if i'll replace it with something or leave it silent. it works at least for the 420 dub house page. at that point in the song it does seem right to have a sample unfold the way it does there, might just do that pattern with another.
Morgen not sure exactly what you mean about buildups, are you basically saying you weren't feeling the dynamics throughout?
I'll keep looking at samples and minimizing. I was trying to shorten the file for this version but I'm having trouble doing that so I've been just working on each part trying to distinguish the sound
I mean, it's like a stream of consciousness (accompanied by beats and stuff) which could break off at any time. Just a neutral observation... The impact (good or bad) probably depends on the state of mind while listening.
