VCV - Free open source virtual Eurorack!

I recently found this:

It's a free virtual eurorack, currently in beta, that works as as standalone. Sources are available too, so if you are into C++ programming you might be interested. You can download it for Windows, macOS and Linux platforms.

I was curious about modular synthesis so I gave it a try (cause its free...), and if you know your basic of sound synthesis, it is really easy to use. Plus, you can find really good tutorials on youtube.

The only drawbacks are that for the moment you can't use it in your DAW as a VST (this feature is coming soon apparently), and there is no midi mapping (except for a keyboard), so once your patch is ready, if you want to play a little bit with the knobs, you got to do everything with the mouse... But hey, it's beta!

I'm not a specialist of modular systems so I can't compare the sound of VCV to real Eurorack systems, but all the module are based on real world modules, and to me, that sounds great.

Finally I can get those random blip blips and zbouibilliby without spending all my money!

It boggles my mind when shit like this is up for free. I wonder if the VST version will be free as well, that would be like a coolness overload.

Thanks for the heads-up. Can't wait to play around with it tomorrow :)

Awesome stuff! The Mutable Instruments modules are amazing!
I thought about routing an analog clock signal into VCV Rack using my interface and the 'Audio Interface' module (patch to 'External Clock Input' on the Sequencer modules) in order to achieve tempo sync.
Apparently the audio inputs are not functioning, yet. No tempo sync in rhe current version.

Useful stuff in there!

Btw, you can easily record audio into Audacity with loopback on Windows. I think on Mac Soundflower does the job.

Really looking forward to the VST version of this! Was thinking about getting Softube Modular, but the constant buying of new additional modules is something I wouldn't like to get into. VCV looks like it could become an awesome alternative! I would gladly give them some money if they get a VST version to work...

Try getting into real modular ;)

I've been following this, as I think the idea is great and the execution looks pretty slick as well, but have yet to try it out. Likely will give it a spin the next time I'm away from my rig and I want to play with some modular ideas.

I haven't tried softtube, but I've been using Reaktor Blocks a TON recently in an instrumental rock project I'm in. Although Reaktor is not free, the concept is the same. The ability to quickly create semi random sequences that sound GREAT, and organically change over time has really produced some very interesting ideas. A bit of a CPU hog though, I wonder how VCV is in that regard. Once VCV gets a vst version going, this may slide its way into my workflow.

Haha, tbh looking at my plugin addiction and my wallet I'm really glad and thankful that the only hardware I'm interested in is of the MIDI controller type ;) Thinking about buying a Linnstrument and some Roli blocks right now, though :suicide:

This thing looks awesome! Sadly for some reason it doesn't work on my computer, got an error message and I'm not able to see the new modules...

EDIT: Nevermind I was using the wrong version of Rack... Now it works and it IS awesome!

Awesome new [Only registered and activated mad cunts can see links. Click Here To Register...]

Steiner Parker Filter, Ladder Diode Filter etc.

I'm having so much fun with VCV Rack, sequencing it from my OT.
The additional midi functions in version 0.4.0 are awesome.
Cool stuff!

Real modules based on Arduinos, inexpensive, fun and DIY
here's a first draft of a simple Oscillator made in Arduino, routed into VCV Rack and Sequenced with BeatStep together with VCO-1.
features implemented so far:
-Sine, Saw, Square, Triangle Waveforms, selectable with pushbutton
-Coarse and Fine Pots
-CV IN (not really V/Oct)
-Octave Selector

I really wish the mouse/knob behavior changed so that it could be usable with a touchscreen. Patching cables is fine... it is turning knobs that poses a problem.

Vult Modules Trummor, Trummor 2 and Vessek are really good! For the first time in a while I actually enjoyed making noises on a computer!

Same here. Last time I had so much fun with a software was when I started with Rebirth..
Vult modules are really outstanding!

I totally believe this is a gateway drug designed by the Evil Eurorack Manufacturers Cartel.

on the other hand, if you want to really dig deep into sound design, it helps you 1] learn, 2] plan so you don't end up buying N times more stuff than you need and 3] not buy at all, merely run the same thing on your computer.

I think vcvrack is awesome

I decided recently to go for an Analog Four Mk1 (actually planned to get a Machinedrum), with the A4 I can has CV/Gate... so hmm maybe you're right!
