Roo Recommends...

First and most importantly, the music itself. Previous recommendations appear on the second post of this thread.

Ok the TLDR bit...

What This Thread Is:

This is just me posting up cool things I've found in the LB. There are many more cool things than I'm likely to post but each time I update, there is usually something that flipped the 'awesome' button even if its just a small quirky thing. Updates on here will be random and sporadic.
I'm not totally focused on production quality or even if the work itself is finished, just something that I think is worth being on radar.

You *will* find things wrong with the tracks I post up. I'm not looking for perfection in every detail of music production. Engineering has never been my focus to the stuff I listen to in here. If you find something these artists could do better, please post on their threads and share the constructive feedback where it can do the most good.

My Listening Habits:

This is the potentially controversial bit.

I tend to listen to music by those that provide positive contributions to the IDMf community. I'll listen to stuff by people I've never heard of but if I'm short of time and I have to choose, the stand-up member of the community usually gets preference. Yes, this is very subjective but in the context of "Cool things I found" rather than "THINGS YOU NEED TO HEAR OR YOU WILL DIE" I reckon its pretty reasonable.

I tend not to listen to remixes, I prefer original work. Occasionally I step outside of this but not often.

If I find someone passing others' work off as their own I don't listen to anything they do in future so an unintended side effect is that it can't go on here (not that its a major prize to be on here :D )

All genres are good. Yes, I'll even listen to dubstep. Polka might be pushing it though.

Historically when I'm cruising through the LB I've always tended to focus on the little guys, the lesser known from the forums, those that don't tend to get so much chatter-time from the rest of the community. I will still listen to the better known around here but I do tend to favour the underdog. Again, this is a guide, not a rule. Sometimes I just want to sit back and be given something very likely to be very good to listen to without having to work at finding it.

What This Thread Is Not:

Its not a competition, there are no prizes, nor really any great kudos. Like most around these parts, I'm just another internet nobody with an opinion. I have a lot of enthusiasm for what goes on in here. Not being mentioned here is not a snub - this thread is just about just cool things I stumbled accross in my own rather unscientific way.

What you Won't see:

You won't ever see my own stuff appear here. If you see the stuff I post up you'll understand why its easy for me to stay humble. Posting negative crits on my own stuff won't affect the way I do this thread and inclusion.

You won't see me posting up anything to mock it. If its in here, its in here because its good in some way. It might be a chuckle but the laugh will be with, not at.

---

If it turns out this thread just annoys people, its easy enough to stop doing it. The goal is just to shout about cool things, nothing more :)

---

Anyway, enough of the caveat chat, I hope you enjoy the music I find in here as much as I do.

Sounds a good plan to me man - I used to wade through the LB more frequently than I do an it's nice to listen to some peeps from the forum instead of random big names on youtube. May check these later, but support for the idea regardless.

Fantastic idea again. Looking forward to listening when I get home. What are you expecting from viewers as far as posting in the tunes you pick or are you prefering we dont clutter the thread?

Clutter away, the more the merrier :)

Each time I update, the current crop get moved to archive, most recent first, the original post will always show the current batch of groovy music babies from our members. So it doesn't matter how much chatter goes on, the music will always be on the first post. No hunting for the tunes, they're always in the first post.

EDIT: Oh, and the archive post will only contain links, not embedded tracks. I noticed previously that once there's a lot of embedding going on, it can take pages quite a while to load so sidestepping that whole issue.

Cool man. As soon as I tell this next batch of students to fuck off and have a nice weekend, its to the corner store for a sixer, then between my headphones to peep these tunes.

And good call on the posting only links. Get over about 6 sound cloud widgets and pretty much all my browsing devices start to freak out...

Have you considered archiving/reposting on a quick and dirty wordpress blog as well, or is that too much like work? ;p

this is a great idea, i usually find myself having to listen to a bunch of tracks before i find one where i can offer an idea or two. this makes it difficult for me to respond to anything since i dont have much time to spare. itll be nice to have a quick reference guide.
