Vocal tricks'n'tips

Hey everybody. I'm currently working with vocalist first time in my live. So any help will be apreciated, I want to do some cool effects, but unfortunatelly youtube seems to have only "backward_spooky_style_trick" vocal tutorials. So if you have any links or something, please help me. Thank you!

Re: Vocal tricks'n'tips

Well, there are thousands of effects. Can you narrow it down a bit?

Yeah, it would be helpful to know what type of things you are looking to do. What kind of music, your vocal style etc.

Re: Vocal tricks'n'tips

Most used effect for vocals are delay (extremes one if you are making something dubby), reverb, distortion (think of megaphon voice, which also involves bandpass filtering) and retrigger. Also repitching with strange results (think of James Blake) is used.

I can't think of many others I'd use live.

Re: Vocal tricks'n'tips

Oh yeah, also pitch modulation (that if fast enough can enter in the FM realm) and ring modulation could bring some interesting strange results.

Re: Vocal tricks'n'tips

Duck-delay (and/or duck-reverb), just like Owl City.
Double-track, like Ozzy Osbourne, Kurt Cobain, Abba, Elliott Smith (and thousand others).
Double-track in different octaves, like Jon Davies (and many others).
Reverb (long) the S's only, like George Michael.

Flanger/phaser, distortion, Talkbox, vocode, pitch up/down, formant, stutter/gapper, [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]
, extreme time-stretch, etc etc etc etc
