Re: Fm 8 Tips & Tricks

Erm... less is more.

That's about the only thing I've learned from FM8. It's not easy to program and it usually takes a LOT more patience than any other synth in my arsenal.

i'm in the same boat. i find it frustrating but still trying to wrap my head around it. less is definitely more. when i go nuts with it, it just sounds like crap.

Re: Fm 8 Tips & Tricks

Use distortion ie: ohmicide and your bass sounds great. Also the Talk Wah is great effect

I disagree about the Talk Wah effect. Makes your sound loose power.

Just go with a WOW filter if you want a talking effect.

Re: N.I FM8 - Tips & Tricks

TBH, think about what you want. Try and figure out how you'd achieve it.. Is the sound the osc being modulated, filter or both?

It's a great synth. Really flexible.

Updated spotify list of all the stuff I've been involved with here:
And bandcamp for stuff I wouldn't even go to a record company with here: https://keefbaker.bandcamp.com/
There's other stuff out there but I can't be fucked to list it.

Re: N.I FM8 - Tips & Tricks

I stayed up one night programming FM8 and I made several AMAZING Patches, and i looked it up, and no one has used even a similar sound to them. FM8 is amazing, and capable of some crazy sounds, if you get the basis of FM Synthesis.
