the man's a pure legend with a great vision on music. Big fan of his SF sounds, banging techno sets from the 90's etc... Recently bought his Emerging crystal universe which is bloody awesome...
Been to Jeff Mills in Antwerp last year and being a fan of Mills I must say his performance sucked big-time.
His flow was off, his mixing was just bad and his 909 improvisation was totally uninspired.
Couldn't stand it any longer and left after one hour into his set.
An amazing artist, definitely the king of techno - always forward thinking, and probably the hardest working artist of them all - most people who get to a famous level in the business stop producing music (or get ghost producers), while Mills always pushed the boundaries of techno.
However, I've heard from many promoters he is a very arrogant person. Then again, he has the reputation to allow him to build arrogance, but still, I'd say social skills are just as important in the industry - and he doesn't show them, also not while playing.
Fuck yes. Any other artists you'd recommend with a similar banging Detroit sound?
Check this out. Carl Cox - Sound Of Ultimate B.A.S.E. for classic raw underground techno. I believe this was definitely before his sound turned more mainstream.
