I will be lucky if I get through many more... bit of a mental month. Maybe I just keep making tracks with my Supercollider granular sound scrambler I wrote just now (used for as an effect in the track)
Nice mellow vibes...just starting my day with this tune - got a hypnotic vibe to it that I'm sure would be great on a hazy dancefloor. Snare definately helps to add a bit of variation the last section. Hope you get a few more tracks out & welcome to fawm .
i get what you mean though, I am struggling a bit also, just life things as well as musical blocks, but man, the best thing about fawm is to try not set a bar and just leave yourself to your own devices, and post it.
Track 1 is nice and smooth and minimal and dubby. Picks up where I would like it to in the second half, but still feels a bit try in the first - I totally want to hear some reverb automation on that rimshot! Lot more automation! Kept me listening though! (nice tune for a morning toke and coffee)
Track 2 is excellently well rounded, nothing sticks out that I would change right away I REALLY like the beat that comes in at a minute into the track with the variation on the bassline. Definitely a lot more going on with the arrangement here compared to the dub track. I also like the vocal chopping/sequencing that you do in this.
#1: I like the dubby laid back feel as Btron has pointed out. Also agree with him that some automation, variation of the elements that are here would help loads as far as pushing this track to another level. The delayed vocal snips are nice. That almost disco laser perc is pretty retro. You could do something weird/new/different with that perhaps?
#2: Love where it goes with that drone sound, but that drone needs space to breath in the parts where you are featuring it. This as a nice old school drum machine vibe to it. The retriggers are a nice touch. Vocal stabs are doing it for me for sure.
Heh - those little moments in track 2 where the bass pulses through like that is cool. Those pitch bends(?) are also real nice - track moves along quite well and those vocal chops add a nice layer to the sound.
Posted the third one, probably needs the most arrangement fixing of them all. All coherence for this 'EP' is gone. Anything could happen now. :mayonesa:
2nd track, the minute in was what also what I liked too, the rhythm to is was really complimentary to the change in the drums. the delayed lead/stab is very spacey and sounds nice with the drone and reverbed drum kit.
First off..sorry for being so late to party on this..don't know how the hell I missed your posts here in this section. Anyway, found em now..and I'm glad I did.
Track 1: Like has been said already..this has a great club feel to it..not too retro and not too modern..just right balance-wise. Nice chilled vibe from it, too.
Track 2: Really liked this track. Reminds me a lot of "Zoolookologie" by Jean Michel Jarre..mainly due to the way you used the vocals on this. Having said that, it still doesn't feel dated in any way and works really well for me.
Track 3: Nice retro feel off of this..like the early English DnB sounds of the late 80's crossed over with the club music scene of the time..and it works really well I think.
Track 4: One word..SMOOTH..really nice work on this! I can't help but wonder what these tracks would sound like hearing em for the first time if you has the time to work on them some more and not have to bang em out to a deadline, as there are really good as they are. I now some might not be into them too much on here, as they might be a bit too retro sounding..but that's a good thing in my opinion, as you've done a really good job of catching that sound and feel. I don't think this is something you should worry about or try to change too much. If this is how your tracks are turning out without you trying too hard to get that retro sound, then keep at it..you're really good at it and there are MANY people out there who are into this feel and overall vibe.
In short, 4 great tracks that would be even better if you do get the chance to go back over then and take on board some of the suggestions made here by the guys. I hope you get the chance to finish some more before the end of the month and post em up..really looking forward to checking them out.
