Recommendations for my first sampler

Hi!
I would like to buy my first hardware sampler with the purpose of playing jams without the computer as I have only stationary PC now :/. I was thinking about the Volca sample but I consider also the old stuff ( KORG ELECTRIBE ES - since older versions as they are cheaper than the newest and I am interested in lo-fi quality). What do you think will be the good choice with a small budget - to 150£. I am getting attached to stuff so I will keep it for longer. With the old KORG I would need the microphone and line mixer(?) so it will be more expensive than Volca with the built-in microphone.
Thanks for any recommendations and if you are users of any samplers I would like to hear your opinions.
(Also if there was similar thread, please link it because I couldn't find it)

I was thinking about korg electribe emx-1 Mx. Sound is great. But it is hard to get one in uk. On eBay, there is the last one in Japan...
Anything similar in sound to this one?

Re: Recommendations for my first sampler

The issue I should that you are asking way too vague of a question, so do you want a rack sampler?
Don’t do it.
Do you want a groove box?
Are you sure you want a sample based groovebox? Why? As opposed to a synth based one?
I used to have an old akai rack unit, I would’ve recommended one then (15 years ago maybe) but not anymore.

Re: Recommendations for my first sampler

On a personal note. Machine Mk3 and laptop if u need portability and not a standalone unit. You won't regret it. So versatile and do much more to offer than just a sampler and groove box. Mk3 also doubles as a sound card. Midi interface. Sampler. Sequencer. Sound library. Vst host list goes on.

Re: Recommendations for my first sampler

The volca cannot sample . It is a sample player. I have one, which I rarely use, as it's a pain to load samples on. The EMX-1 is the blue synth engined groove box to the pink ESX-1 sample based groove box. The ESX-1 does however have 2 keyboard parts to allow you to play a sample across the keys. So you would record the source synth at say middle C and it would then transpose that sound down the keys in real time.

Yeah, I saw it, some bullshit with recording using the smart phone app.

Re: Recommendations for my first sampler

I think it ultimately comes down to maschine vs mpc in my book and that depends on what your setup looks like. Mpc works standalone, maschine doesn't (at least from what I know). So with the MPC your spending a lot of money on standalone hardware(very good standalone hardware) while maschine uses your computer for a lot of the functions. I would say that most people would get more out of maschine (because most people rely on daws) however if you don't want to use a PC, MPC would be a logical choice, and some of the higher end MPCs could actually replace your daw all together.

If you have a lot of money sitting around want would also check out the Octatrack(electrons sequencer is beat by few), or if you wanted more of a groovebox you could check out electribe (I've never used it but I've heard good things from friends.)

Is it just that the desktop is too old to run Maschine? Maschine doesnt need a laptop specifically.

Yeah, I was tempted to suggest an Octatrack, but it’s about 10x the budget outlined. You do get what you pay for.

Maschine is probably the lowest cost alternative, albeit at the expense of portability. Whatever broken Chinese phone you have, check out the App Store. Chances are there is a suitable sampler.

Re: Recommendations for my first sampler

Honestly, I’d save your 150. But if you just have to have something the Electribe ES isn’t awful. With clever usage you could make some cool beats. But you’d probably either want really good sound sources and/or wanting some external FX.
