Absynth Appreciation Thread

So, instead of a question "what's ur guys favorite (insert whatever nonsense that indicates the topic creator doesn't know about Absynth) VST/AU/MAS/RTAS/Standalone Plugin?!?!?derp" I figured I'd just tell it how it is again. This topic probably belongs in Side Room cuz haters are gon' try and hate but here it is.

Absynth is the shit.

Absynth is a real workhorse, but it takes some time getting used to

its interface is kinda weird though, imo

end of my offtopic. absynth is one of the coolest soft synths i've worked with and its completely customizable envelopes are a great feature!

Re: Absynth Appreciation Thread

First plugin I ever bought waaay the fuck back in '02 and basically introduced me to the term VST.

Still use it from time to time but honestly I try not to use it because it is pretty easy to identify,

Ya I love the envelopes you can get sick LFO style movements but because they're handmade you can make it a much more organic and natural sound. So dope

this, my latest productions have been pretty much 100% Absynth and I think esp. the effects section is getting obvious

Re: Absynth Appreciation Thread

yeah man, dont use Reason, Absynth, Dblueglitch, guitars, human voice, acoustic drums, strings, trombones, piano, or massive...

otherwise it'll be embarrassing when someone points out what you are using because of their characteristic sound.

...because 95% of listeners care more about production methods than content... im positive of this.

can we all just make good tunes already??

On topic... Although the interface has little to be desired, Absynth is a hell of a synth. I've been using it for years and I'm probably only getting at 15% of its capabilities. Google Mark Mosher, hes a friend and is GREAT with Absynth, posts a lot of videos regarding it and controlling it in realtime via his blog "Modulate This"

Re: Absynth Appreciation Thread

The problem is not that it's embarassing or that people will be able to tell what synth you're using, but that it makes all your tunes sound similar.

Re: Absynth Appreciation Thread

What I don´t like is to make music thats promoting more the synthesizers of some designers instead of making the music sound different or unique so its always nice to search for ways to make a popular synth sound different in a special way. If its just about using a popular sound of a popular synth you could just be happy with using finished samples so some people like to use finished ideas but I am my own idea in every detail so I am able to enjoy Absynth and make it sound different if I desire it and its not even difficult because there is so much out there what you can use so if you are one of the people that just push 15 knobs and says "Oh, thats so cool, lets release it!", you can love it but you also can love Absynth if you are one of the guys that loves to experiment with pushing 150.000.000.007 knobs, like me, befor you release your finished tune. Anyway, a tune never is finished, there are no "finished ideas". Everything just is a start-point, always. Never forget that you are always nothing else but a "starter". Problem is just that humans like to create gods and legends, so they created the term "genius" which makes people belive that finished ideas exist, but thats not true.

Re: Absynth Appreciation Thread

Spot on OP. Absynth has been a part of the studio for quite some time now, but I find its use has been widdled down to sound design outside of projects. This isn't to say its not used as a primary, secondary....part in a tune, it is. But this happens more when I find a groove and the (other) vst or wav is unable to be morphed to the place I want it. A quick export allows for using the 'sample' as is, at one point in time, but with the full capabilities of absynth, like morph waves on any wav based parameter. But then there is the use as a fx plug-in....sick on the floor awesome.

Re: Absynth Appreciation Thread

With traditional music, people will pick a certain instrument because of it's signature sound - people play Guild guitars because they sound like Guilds, or Steinway pianos because they sound like Steinways. But often in electronic music I hear people shy away from certain "instruments" because of the signature sound.

Interesting difference.

Re: Absynth Appreciation Thread

In traditional music the focus is usually on harmony, melody, or rhythm. In electronic dance music there is much more concern with timbre. It's true now that the possibilities are pretty much infinite but it was already true for moroder, acid house or early techno - all of which basically consisted of monophonic 1-bar loops with timbral modulations.
