DJs/VJs original content vs 3rd party content

It's a little boring when a DJ only plays other people's music. Honestly don't care for them at all as an artist whenever I know they don't play their own stuff.
There are a handful of DJs I know who do that, and their production seems to be lacking because they don't focus on it clearly.

I started getting into doing live visuals in the last year and realized that everyone I've met who does live visuals doesn't make their own content. They just rip youtube videos off and put cartoons/videos through filters. It's really sad that I don't know anyone else who makes their own content... I'm beginning to realize how much of a disappointment doing live visuals in Minneapolis is lately... All of the major visual groups around there also rip off youtube videos, and when they actually do make custom visuals, they're very basic and exactly what you'd expect at a typical EDM show.

Everything about the music scene in Minneapolis right now is boring, the DJing and the VJing. Original content here is highly limited, and when it actually is original, expect it to be generic looking still. Fuck, I'm flustered as hell. The EDM scene is too obnoxious for me to get into. I don't want to make music and visuals for a buncha dreadheaded/stereotypical stoner fucking wooks.

Some people like it though. What are your choices?

1. Quit
2. Move
3. Make a new scene where you are
4. Suck it up

I was being a dumb cunt about it and venting out of frustration. This mostly is about the people I know directly, there's good stuff out there, it just isn't easy to find.

In one regard my initial response to the whole "taking other people's work and slapping a filter on it" is that is kind of what music DJs do in a sense right? They take a bunch of pre-made stuff and artfully create something new, but entertaining with it. Like your average party bro spinning house records isn't doing anything much more than that.

Thoughts?

There's a difference between remixing something entirely and beat matching/ fading a track in though.
