Making this FX

How do you make that "pew pew" fx at the 2:21 buildup?

Or a highly resonant filter? Not listening right now either, at work.

Re: Making this FX

Sine wave oscillator with tempo-synced sawLFO assigned to pitch (first it's 8ths, later 16ths). It also has pitch-bend (up) automation, along with the sawLFO on pitch.

this, but personally i would make one change, i would use a logarithmic decay on the pitch modulator instead of a linear saw.

edit:
when i say decay i mean the part of the wave that is moving from positive to negative. is there even a name for that?

I'm sure there are several ways to get a similar sound. It's fun and rewarding to try different shapes (and multiple LFO shapes and speeds on the same parameter, that together make a new and fun shape).

I just used a "straight" saw/ramp and it worked for me. The "pure version" of it (which is not logarithmic) at exactly 2:29 was a big give-away for me.

agreed. the shape should be whatever works for your track. and after listening to the part at 2:29 i agree that its much closer to linear than i first thought.

btw surge is possibly my favourite soft synth of all time! i think it is the most underrated synth ever, it seems that very few people even know it exists. spread the word, surge = <3

I fell in love with it may 13th, 2008 (I just checked the date when I created my first preset for it, haha). I'm sure the were/is numerous threads here on IDMf where I praised it.
It's (still) fucking awesome. Sure Serum has surpassed it, and many ideas that are in Serum are in Surge (I wonder why their names are so similar). Surge still is a nice WT, subtractive and FM hybrid synth. Concise and to the point.
Claes, the creator and coder, went on to write/develop Bitwig. Good move!

i think it was the first synth that amazed me with how flexible it is. the feature i look for most in a synth is flexibility and with surge you can mix and match synthesis methods and get some great results.
i could praise it all day but i dont want to derail the thread too much

sorry OP
