Icon11 How to overcome a "block"?

Hey guys,

I've been having troubles for a week or two actually being creative with things. It's bothering me since I haven't really released anything for a while. Anywho, I've been trying to do things to get inspiration. I mean, I have upwards of 100 unfinished projects that I could try to finish, but not one of them is sparking any interest in me. I can't ever seem to get anything to "sound good" anymore. I can tell you that I definitely have been satisfied with works of my own in the past, and by past I mean weeks ago. I've been producing for 3 years now, I'm not quite sure why this is happening. I can't even compose my own chord progressions or melodies anymore.

Thanks to all who got through that and understood it all

Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening to me? Or maybe things you did to get out of the block?

Any help is appreciated, thanks

Re: How to overcome a "block"?

Honestly, I wouldn't even worry about it. Not having any creative energy for a week or two really isn't a block IMO. Just take the break. I recently took about a month off and now everything seems fresh again.

Try a new workflow.

Make some beats. Design some pads. etc

I suppose so. It could just be me and my impatience...

Thanks though

Use the down time for useful work
Make templates, patches for your synths
I often build custom effect and instrument racks in live when I have uninspired moments!

Re: How to overcome a "block"?

It's weird, I find that my creative blocks coincide with other things going on in my life. I have had a rough, draining year, and little time to have to feel creative. Now that summer is near, and I have have free time, I am feeling that spark of creativity.

Re: How to overcome a "block"?

Getting over a creative block: create a bunch of experimental horseshit. I promise that your juices will begin flowing again. Make a noise track or something.

Making things sound better, however, is a skill. I feel like most people seeking creative inspiration are normally seeking a skill they don't already possess. 'Happy accidents' aren't always reliable unless you really know what you're doing. Both are obviously important, but I figured it was worth mentioning.

I sculpt the block into something.

I know this sounds facetious but I'm actually only semi-joking.

Re: How to overcome a "block"?

i don't think creative blocks are real. no one who is creative just stops being creative. however, they just stop acting upon it (creating). this occurs due to millions of different variables and valid excuses and reasonable justifications, such as stress at work or dissatisfaction with one's own output (not meeting standards, getting discouraged.)

creativity is kind of like your libido. no matter how flacid your penis or how dry your vagina is at any given moment, it doesn't take a whole lot of effort to get it in the mood. just keep touching it.

depending how you look at it this could be kind of a shitty analogy - some people really do have ED, for example :U

BUT if you look at libido more from the mental stimulation or kink point of view it becomes a good analogy again.
