Anyone use a Subpac?

Anyone use one of these things?

My initial thoughts, having not used one, is that its mainly just a fun sound enhancer but not a studio tool as I would assume that the actual "bass" feeling is highly inaccurate and made so to create a dramatic sensation.

Kinda like Beats headphones for your body.

Any experienced users?

Re: Anyone use a Subpac?

Nope but this is wearable technology borrowed from the auto audio market from about 15 yrs ago. They where called bass shakers.Personally I would not use them but I am sure there is a market for it..causal listeners mainly..it is cool but kinda corny..

Re: Anyone use a Subpac?

I guess if you used a reference track and gauged the way the bass felt from that track, and tried to match on your track, it might be handy for those who don't have great monitors or a treated room.

Otherwise I'd have to agree with ya

Depending on the sensitivity of the device it might just come in handy for people with those needs.Usually such devices are used for freqs in the 40 and below range. Some are for even lower in the 20hz range which after that those freqs are felt and not heard.Cool tool though.

Re: Anyone use a Subpac?

I know a few dubstep producers who use them. Its like anything else, you have to learn it. And its only really useful for getting gain staging correct. Its probably better than a sub in a untreated room at any length. Though for my part I'd rather have a sub in an untreated room! Just not sure how I feel about it though I've heard good things.

I think it might be kind of fun to try. I like the idea of saving my ears.

Is this a variation on the fleshlight or wha?

EDIT: I saw the video and it's pretty convincing.

Re: Anyone use a Subpac?

I think the only way and with anything really, to know if the thing is a fun toy or a useful production tool is to toss down the monies and work with it for a few months to year.. Because you get a mixed sense from their testimonials on the subject.

Some artists I really admire say its the greatest thing since the invention of murder.. others say its a way for listeners to connect fully with the music. So is toy or is tool?

I heard similar statements, but i haven't tried a subpac yet. When i have the money, i guess i will look into it and just buy. Maybe you want to seek other users experiences at the gearslutz forum?
