Technical Question about .. wait for it... Soundcloud *gasp*

Short but sweet.........

when a listener clicks play on a soundcloud link. and the doorbell goes and he trips over and pulls the plug from the pc , causing the track to stop playing (for obvious reasons) at a mere 2 seconds, does that count as a 'play' or is there more involved.

Re: Technical Question about .. wait for it... Soundcloud *gasp*

There's probably a minimum playtime, I know youtube, which kind of sets the standard for measurement and delivery of "hits", uses a minimum playtime, along with other factors, to determine if something is a real play or just an accidental click or someone looking around for something in particular, but loading the wrong video and jumping all over the timecode anyways because they think what they're looking for is in there. Long story short, I'd be surprised if soundcloud did not have similar criteria. I'd also be surprised if those exact criteria were public, but someone who knows more about coding than me may know a way to find out by looking at the web code or something.

My guess is it does require at least a certain amount of "play time" as well. I'm also pretty sure it governs how many listen per day per user count as plays. I say this because I've done like a skype thing talking with someone about a mix and all the plays (full length mind you) didn't show up on the other person's account that day.
