(Dark) Technical Techno?

I always see 'dark techno' described simultaneously as 'minimal' so I was wondering if you know of any dark 'technical' techno? Doesn't even have to be 'dark' actually, just something more on the 'technical' side. Or is techno by default, minimal in sound?

If by "technical" you mean interesting/complex then I would recommend Monolake. Try his album Momentum, it's pretty dark as well.

Thanks! I am checking out Cinemascope on Youtube and it is insanely tech/IDM sounding. He has a crazy amount of singles/EPs on Discogs. Now that's what I'm talkin' bout ; )

Recent stuff from Rick Pier O'Neil are pretty "technical" to me, huge amount of basses while still sounding dynamic (can't post links yet!).

Re: (Dark) Technical Techno?

Techno is and isn't a real genre. There's 1 or 2 people in Europe that think of it as the holiest of holy's but it was this inner city Detroit music that was a precursor to this other music called 'miami bass' or 'booty music' so no ugh..

Generally in goth circles though when I've heard people mention Dark Techno they were talking about aggrotech or something like this though..

I am a big Soman fan. Mask and Ransom are my favorite songs. Dark and layers of sound but not technical. I guess there is no such a thing as 'technical techno' since almost all techno uses a simple 4/4 beat. I noticed that the Monolake recommendation ended up sounding more like IDM.

Re: (Dark) Technical Techno?

I definitely recommend PLASTIKMAN - Ask Yourself (Knobs Remix)

Personally it's my favorite "style" of techno when it comes to dark. Nothing too fast - just heavy, in your face, ambient (to an extent).

Check it out!
