Taking requests

So, I'm ok with Max/MSP and m4l, but I'm pretty easily distracted unless I have a clear goal. Anyone want to suggest ideas for effects or instruments? I've thought about recreating some non-max plugins to better understand them.

Throw some requests my way!

Re: Taking requests

I don't use those things, but I often think up weird ideas for synths n stuff.

How about an oscillator with partials that become more and more detuned as they rise in frequency. So the upper partials would be more detuned than the lower ones.

Or a hard-sync oscillator that would reset at different phases of its wavelength, and you could put on LFO on it and it might sound neat.

Re: Taking requests

Both of those are cool, the detuning oscillator could be set to some other tuning like pythagorean (which does go "out of tune" as you get away from the fundamental) or prime number ratios of the fundamental.

I've never heard of a hard-sync oscillator, definitely sounds worth building in max, thanks!

Re: Taking requests

I'm trying to design this bizarre reverberator/delay in max. Basically it uses the age old allpass filter group for the 'verb, with some user definable delay.
I was also going to add this weird oscillator to it that gets mixed into the reverb, but I have no idea about fft programming. My plan was to take the original signal, anaylze through max's fft aspect, convert that into a frequency and send that to custom oscillator-filter series that I still haven't got around to making.

Re: Taking requests

Hmm I've never tried to design a reverb from scratch in max. Is your filter group anything like the "schroeder" reverb (a group of comb filters going through a stage of all-pass filters)?

That already sounds more complex than using pfft~ to do anything, but if you'd like I could take a look at your patch and try to help you implement that.

Re: Taking requests

I haven't really started the meat of the programming yet, just been scratching down pseudo code.
And yeah, the reverb is a schroeder-type base

Meer - the hard-sync oscillator is a neat little topic! Experiments are underway.

Re: Taking requests

a combination buffer shuffler and delay, with some sort of sequencing capability(IE not totally random)

Re: Taking requests

You know, I've made a lot of half-assed buffer chopping type things, I'll try to come up with one solid one with a decent UI.

At this rate, its going to be a while before I can post links to these -_-

Re: Taking requests

Did I mention I get distracted? I have a few bits and pieces in the works, but I'm posting up a simple patch for now to get myself back on track.

Looks like this
Its pretty fun if you throw 20-30 short-ish samples in, with a few longer ones for good measure. Plays up to 100 voices (if poly~ is behaving).

Re: Taking requests

you should try something simple but useful, like an auto panner triggered/parameterized by strength of incoming amplitude! Reaper has a cool one that I might try to remake in Reaktor soon.

Ah the old spike panner [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]

I think I can do that pretty quickly, lets see how wrong I am...

Re: Taking requests

Well I wouldn't sell mine for 30 bucks, but it does a thing that resembles the thing I intended it to:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]

...and it looks like this:

This gave me some good ideas for other patches, namely one that routes audio to an effect chain once it reaches a threshold. Let the bug hunt and feature creep begin!

Re: Taking requests

Nice! Gets the job done. What about a "stick" feature that holds the altered pan position, then bumps it to another location when the threshold is crossed again?

Re: Taking requests

Well I'm back at it. Figure I'd bump this for old times sake. I've been posting up M4L patches on [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]
which is this dropbox/github for DAW sessions thingy.

There's three up so far, a global scale object (that updates the other ones in the session), a weird FM synth, and a midi note/rhythm generator. New one tonight or tomorrow. So if anyone on here is into that, check them out!
