Re: [Melodic Hardcore] Agent Slimepunk - Giving Up

Intro riff is totally Judas Priest. Baller.

I like the vocals. Fuck the booth, sounds fine. It's like early In Flames covering Marduk. Totally fits. What's your processing like on them?

The guitar melodies are cool, if a little chaotic. There's a lot going on between the melody lines and the vocal tracks, so it gets a bit cacophonous. That's cool by me. I like that it doesn't really settle into anything straightforward.

The swing thing at 2:42 totally threw me - I love it. It's so different that it's not even really a breakdown, but you make it work. Really like the guitars over it.

This feels like a complete song. Well done.

Extremely minimal. I auditioned guitar rig's screamer pedal while I was recording and just never touched anything again. There might also be a limiter on the vocal bus, but nothing crazy

That really means a lot, considering the fact that I have trouble finishing things. Thanks for the input!

Re: [Melodic Hardcore] Agent Slimepunk - Giving Up

At the beginning of the song, I thought the vocals needed to come forward a bit, but everything was clear by the end. Not sure if something changed or if I just needed to put my metal ears on. Other than that, a solid track for sure.

Dammit, I apparently can't get away from metal no matter what I do. Thanks for the critique

I think you're right. I made a new version and tried to raise the vocals enough to not get buried. Thanks for the help!

Re: [Melodic Hardcore] Agent Slimepunk - Giving Up

I really, really prefer the first version. Focusing on vocals always detracts from the music for me, but I know I'm in the minority on that. I'm more interested in them as part of the music than as some sort of centerpiece that everything else revolves around, and I think you nailed that in the first mix. They interplayed with the guitar melody instead of overshadowing it. On the other hand, if you're making vocal-centric music, the new mix is probably more appropriate, even if it's not to my taste. Neither is bad, they just do different things to the song as a whole.

Re: [Melodic Hardcore] Agent Slimepunk - Giving Up

Nice one!
I agree with someone else here and find you have too much going on between the vocals and melody at the start.
But over all itís solid, I really liked the weird middle part. Almost wished that pause was a tiny bit longer.

Re: [Melodic Hardcore] Agent Slimepunk - Giving Up

first version is so much better. Vox are better balanced there, while second version sounds super dry and more in your face which reminds me of radio edit mix where everything is mixed for the sake of being as loud as possible. You lose guitars there because vox surpasses everything. Too flat for my taste. In original version I think vox and guitars are well done but I still not sure about drum section. Wants more punch and oomph because it just slaps around for the sake of keeping the groove and that's all it achieves. I have more thoughts and suggestions so if interested PM me.

sounds like punk metal, the vocals are harsh being too resonant couldn't listen to it at full volume on my headphones, other than its pretty good

Pretty tight, loven it. Was looking for either a second vocalist or a sick breakdown. Keep up the good work!
