Although I do understand the DFAM didn’t appear at NAMM but at another building about 30 miles away.

The digitone gets a fair bit a of skepticism but I have to chime in in it's favor. The idea of a substractive synth with an FM osc section is quite the no-brainer.

The pallet of timbre fm generates is pretty much infinite.

I say bravo. Sure you can't get an instant SH-type bass sound but fuck it.

You can't fuck with behringer. The eurorack lil guys being artists/engineers/craftsmen/businesspeople are their next target. I wish they left that one alone tbh. Uli gives no fuck though.

Yes. Simplified FM w Elektron sequencer. That ticks a lot of boxes for me. I have actively avoided FM for a long time.

Eventually you develop an inner language for how operators interact. The trick is to stick with one algorithm and explore it thoroughly.

It's also much easier if you have a good relative ear (ie you can easily identify intervals between two harmonics or the fundamental and a particular harmonic etc.. ways to intellectualize the harmonic content of a tone).

I think you might be jumping the gun a bit there. They showed the circuit board for this at the beginning of the year. It's a semi-modular synth. Didn't Arturia just bring out 2 of them. It does appear to be the trend, by the amount of them at NAMM this year.

Did you guys hear the behringer is maybe gonna clone the ob-xa? Now that’s a big deal. That is if it’s not unforgivably noisy like the Deepmind 12 which I returned. It’s fine on most “fat” patches, but for dark and smooth ones there’s a shit ton of hi freq noise. No BoC joy.

i guess unforgivably is relative. i've noticed some noise but its not anything I cant deal with, I've dealt with single coil guitar pickups forever now so I guess my tolerance for noise is relatively high.

in a mix/song its just fine IMO. squeaky clean doesn't really do a whole lot for me.

Maybe I got a bad one or something. I have a bunch of half broken synths from the 80s and this is the noisiest by far. Loved the actual synth tho. I ended up getting the similarly specced prophet rev2.. arrives tomorrow.. woohooo

Personally I think 2016 and 2017 were more exciting in my opinion. Berhingers module, the digitone, and Arturia are the best for me
