Is SoundCloud Pro worth it or are there better alternatives?

Is SoundCloud Pro worth it or are there better alternatives?

I find $99/year to be quite hefty price for basically just storage space (since I don't really rely on other features of SoundCloud that much).

But I'm too lazy to perhaps host my own server to share my tracks.

So are there perhaps more affordable alternatives?

https://hearthis.at/

Also has a hugely useful import feature for importing your entire SoundCloud profile there.

Plus with Hearthis.at, you can sell music directly to the listener from your account and get paid into your Paypal account..not a deal-breaker..but a useful feature to have all the same. Most might use Bandcamp for sales, but the added sales feature on Hearthis might be a better fit for those who just want to sell individual tracks as they release them.

But clearly hearthis.at is a SoundCloud killer.

Even their premium pricing and features are much more competitive.

Yeah..you'd think that, but I still find the Hearthis interface a bit of a mess..like they are trying to be the same as Sound Cloud, but are also trying very hard not to look like them while they're doing it. Stuff just feels organized wrong to me..not the most intuitive interface in the world..but still usable, if you know what I mean.

Using your own server sounds like a great idea! I should look more into that.

Re: Is SoundCloud Pro worth it or are there better alternatives?

i don't know where to distribute my tracks if I hosted them myself.

I do that with my 2 podcasts, but for connection to a community... i don't know.

If there was a place where you can host your own music and still be in a community like hearthis.at, I would be very open to that.

does anyone know?

I'm curious why you need the "pro" version of any of these services? What are the features you are looking for? For tone's sake: honest question, I've never seen the value of the pro account unless you just need more hosting space.

On the other hand, hosting your own tunes doesn't seem as viable an option since everything is so app oriented these days.

Soundcloud has pretty much sucked since they killed the groups. Just saying. What used to get hundreds of plays for me dropped to the teens pretty much the day they killed the damn groups.

Re: Is SoundCloud Pro worth it or are there better alternatives?

SC did way too much shit wrong to fuck themselves over with that massive overhaul. They're on par for becoming the next Last.FM if they keep it up

I'd personally rather pay for distrokid and play my odds with real listeners, or just migrate to the (free) bandcamp

Re: Is SoundCloud Pro worth it or are there better alternatives?

As already mentioned, Bandcamp, Hearthis and also Logamp are some alternatives, but imho are not close to providing the amount of promotional options that was available on SC when there were groups...

Yeah, I still use it heavily for uploading stuff, but it doesn't work as a promotional tool for unknown artists on its own anymore. Tracks only posted on SC without external links get much less listeners. It's a bit sad, I liked to use and support SC but it just doesn't make any sense anymore to pay for the service...

For soundcloud, there was the possibility to post to 75 (I think) groups, which was a nice thing to get some feedback and maybe some followers, and also to open more groups than with a free account. The only thing besides more hosting space now is the option to replace tracks without deleting all comments and likes, I think...

With 'Pro' you can replace a track instead of uploading a new track. The replaced track will also keep the stats.
That's a pretty neat feature.
Actually I thought about it recently, because I usually upload several versions for each track.
Besides that it's just expanded storage I think.

This thing is probably only reason why I would buy Pro user. I carelessly upload a lot of shit and unfinished projects on my soundcloud, could just replace them once they are finished.

Re: Is SoundCloud Pro worth it or are there better alternatives?

Nothing to add that wouldn't just come across as complaining about SC. I have several gripes with them.

I'd suggest not to go with SoundCloud if you're going to spend your actual hard earned on an account and instead go with one of the suggestions above. Personally I prefer Hearthis.at since its now doing what SC used to and with better streaming options for listeners.

Hearthis.at pulled a blinder by adding groups almost to the day that SC removed them.

Re: Is SoundCloud Pro worth it or are there better alternatives?

I didn't know you could sell individual tracks through hearthis!

The only thing I haven't seen suggested yet is youtube, which I'm on as halfheartedly as I'm on hearthis. But, that's pretty much your largest possible audience, so I think you'd be doing yourself a disservice to not be there, trying to draw people to your other platforms.

For me, soundcloud is still my primary platform because it's where I have the most followers and most activity, but I'm not pro on any platform. If anything, it would be hearthis if I ever get near the free plays limit.

Why are you supporting satan so much? It hurts you mate. :-/

@topic Bought soundcloud pro. Reposting, liking tracks while my songs are at the top brought me bunch of new followers and reposts of my tracks. I'm gonna keep this pro soundcloud for a while.
