Timing latency - production vs live vs prerecorded

I'm beginning to think that I have to switch from Ableton as syncing through the sbx from an imac just isn't keeping the timing - latency around 20ms out + 20 in +- 5 or so. Any Daw recommendations please? Bit of a bummer really seeing as I paid for it, ahem. Switching from the PC has halved latency but I'm still using the trusty steinberg ur22 as a resident audio soundcard (box) I bought just seems to back up under pressure and crackle , perhaps driver problems

I know next to nothing about latency, but could it be your interface rather than the DAW? My current recording latency is about one beat, but the way I do things this never matters as I can just trim the audio. Playback is close enough for government work (so to speak). I'm using a MOTU 828 MKII and a quadcore desktop I built about 7-8 years ago. Windows.

Every os can benefit from daw optimizing and tweaks for these reasons.
