Automating Dubstep wobble basslines

I use the program Reason from propellerhead and I was just wondering how people change the tempo very quickly for rhythms with wobble basses (Ex. Down by DZ). Even though i have tried just linking and lfo to an envelope filter or just linked one of my midi knobs to manually filter and even used cv gates to have more control of the wobble i still can't have clean transitions between different rhythms for the envelope filter. If you can explain how you do this it would be greatly appreciated (doesnt matter if you dont use reason i will probably be able to figure it out if you explain it for the program you use.) Thanks in advance

You can do what I do and take a bassline riff, record different note values for the LFO (1/16, 1/8, 1/4, whatever, etc...) - route each on its own track, then cut your results up on the grid with only one track playing at any given time.

Yeah, I think it beats automation cause with automation you have to be SUPER precise. With cutting to the grid its always perfect.

Glad I could help.

Re: Automating Dubstep wobble basslines

sometimes you can get away with just automating LFO rate, but if you really listen to a lot of dubstep, you can easily hear in tracks where they are just automating like one patch in massive, and it sounds amateurish. Fatpucker's tip to resample is much smarter, as you can then adjust the timing to taste, process different notes differently, etc. etc.

I usually try to keep automation till its own separate composition phase. That way im not confusing myself jumping between composing and editing and sound design in a big shitty mess.
