Re: industrial\EBM free drum samples

Don't look for samples that are just genre specific. Tons of free libraries online (freesound.org or just google). Heavily-processed 808s/909s feels like a right thing for industrial. Learn a bit of sound design; use pitch envelopes, distortion. Layer drums, you might come up with something more interesting than already pre-processed drum sample where you have not much of control to change its character.

808 samples are great to manipulate with tons of assorted fx. I see you FL so Ogun is amazing for creating hissing snares and blistering cranks.
And there is this..

Re: industrial\EBM free drum samples

All DAWs have everything you need. VSTs are necessary if you're not feeling happy with what has been provided by your DAW and want something more out of it, practical wise. In that case, you can look for third party samplers, for example, Battery, Kontakt, Reaktor's Polyplex (not free). Really can't name that much because I'm happy with Live's native sampler. Just search for free sampler vsts or something like that. Also, I believe that every DAW comes with plenty of samples so explore what is already there first. FL Studio must have 808 pack, maybe it's even a default.

who's stopping you learning how to use it? It's AM synth, so wtf, just turn every knob and see what it does. Worst case - just watch a tutorial or read about it.

Re: industrial\EBM free drum samples

TR-808 samples are nice but a bit overused. They are good to have, but I think for industrial, you might also want to have a few obvious TR-909 samples and some Boss Dr-Rhythm drum machine samples. Roland also made a really good drum machine in the 90s but I forget what it was called.

In other words, test out different drum machine samples, and find a free download of those drum machines. Then combine all of them together with your other samples of other types for variety.

I'm sure you could probably find one on the interwebs at a decent price. And your point is valid in regards to the 808, I myself have a particular fondness of those sounds. As far as Ogun experimenting is concerned to OP. Do it because it would be sad to have such an awesome vst and not do anything with it.

The more I think about it, I don't know why I didn't mention it before, The DX-10 plugin is would be just as effective for producing Industrial snares, bass, ect..The sound design of the DX-10 is very reminiscent of a lot of Front 242 design.

Re: industrial\EBM free drum samples

Taking a "real drum sample" and reducing the sample rate, or using a bit crusher sparingly should get you the classic ebm sound. The majority of the ebm samples that aren't synthesized you hear often are real drum samples from the 80's/90's, but technology at the time didn't allow as high of sample rates as we have today.

If your looking for more impact-ish drums/samples, things breaking, metal hits and such, finding a survival/horror or fps pc games sound folder is often a gold mine. (The half life crowbar hitting things sound is perfect)

Re: industrial\EBM free drum samples

industrial?

what era?

i tend to use sampled drums from late 80's - mid 90's digital drum machines. think linn drum, alesis hr-16, korg ddm-10 roland tr707, etc.

they get my typical re-pitching, eq-ing, compressing, and distortion...

that said my industrial output is sort of mid 90's style mixed w IDM.

also, listen to this guy.

i have samples of all these old drum machines cause they've contain many of the sounds I like from his advice.
