Re: Cakewalk SONAR is dropping numbered version releases

I can't even load projects that previously used Melodyne into the latest version, it just errors on their tracks. Doesn't crash the DAW, but any audio clips with melodyne used as ARA just become white noise. This is a major problem for me as I've been heavily editing a lot of audio with Melodyne for a current project.

I did have a test of Vocal Sync. Its ok, nothing great. It may be helpful for polishing but I don't think its an earth shattering addition.

Yikes!
should have read this before upgrading....anyway,i went for the monthly bit and got platinum.supposedly i will own it after a year.my question would be,how do i reinstall without the actual software?unless i missed something,i didn't see anything about that.

Re: Cakewalk SONAR is dropping numbered version releases

The installation doesn't affect X3, so that will still work fine. I've been using X3 solidly every day since installing SP without any issues. Some of the SP-bundled plugins work with X3, some complain they are only licensed for SP or later.

If you want to manually install, you can run the appropriate installer from the Command Centre download folder, which you can find by clicking on the gear icon.

Worth mentioning that anything installed by CC does not show up in Programs & Features, making it harder to keep track of what is installed on your PC, and of course complicating things should you wish to uninstall.

The quality of this upgrade is indefensible by anyone other than marketing people and blind fanbois.

Re: Cakewalk SONAR is dropping numbered version releases

Given everything said here..would you guys suggest going for this if a person has never owned it before?

And how much space dose the install take up in total on your C Drive?

Sonar has always had some crazy-making quirks but I've used it for a few years now and it is basically a good product. Most of my issues in this thread are about the management of the latest version, rather than it as a DAW. Regarding size, not got access to my PC atm but bear in mind the number and size of plugins that go in your VSTPLUGINS folder(s) becomes a factor in calculating the required disk space.

Here you go matey:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 28MB
C:\Program Files\Celemony 27MB
C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk 10MB
C:\Program Files (x86)\Celemony 28MB
C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk 88MB
D:\MusicApps\Cakewalk 54GB (note, GB here)
D:\MusicApps\Cakewalk Content 11GB (...and here)
D:\MusicApps\Cakewalk Projects 702 MB

Of the above, the D:\MusicApps\Cakewalk\SONAR X3 Producer only takes up about 83 MB and D:\MusicApps\Cakewalk\SONAR Platinum is around 168MB, the rest are plugins and stuff that comes with Sonar and is shared between the applications. My folders might be slightly larger because I have several versions of Sonar plugs and toys in my installation but I don't think it will be a massive amount of difference in size for a fresh installation.

I have a 128GB SSD as my system drive, so you can see that if I had to put around 66GB of Cakewalk stuff on my C: drive it would cause me some system issues. I'll be upgrading later in the year but you get a bit of insight into why I'm seething at the dumbfuck developers that thought it was ok to shit on someone's C: drive.

Note also that I have the Command Center downloads in D:\MusicApps\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads which accounts for about 10GB of that 54GB.

Current system has 6TB (7200rpm drives) across several drives, not including system drive, not including backup storage and other external devices. Storage not an issue for me. Just idiot devs

Got RAID. Whole lotta people don't realise one of the mahoosive caveats of it, hence my chuckle earlier in this thread.

Re: Cakewalk SONAR is dropping numbered version releases

When you install a RAID solution you're advised to install HDDs by different manufacturers or at the very least HDDs from different production batches. The reason is that similar HDDS will have the same Mean Time Before Failure, so if you build from the same source, your system is likely to lose all its hard drives around the same time.

When you look inside prebuild machines, a lot of them have HDDs installed in sequence as they came off the production line.

So your HDDs are likely to fail together. Not guaranteed, but statistically possible.

So when people scoff and quote "RAID" at me, I smile and wonder if they know their stuff or have simply drank from their supplier's Koolaid.

So for any random Cakewalk forum users browsing here on the back of our short-lived friend that came out to hunt me... I'm not infallible but my tech fu is strong:

Command Center is a bag of shite.

Seriously.

What about the R-Mix and Pro-Channel and some other stuff that only came with X2 (and were a hassle to use in X3?) Are they part of the new Sonar versions?

<checking> ...

Some are on the list, some aren't. I have more install-files in the download folder than products on the My Products webpage, even when counting stuff I bought separately (like Z3ta+2, previous versions of Sonar, etc).

Aside from the Braintree update, there are 19 executables in the CC download folder and 2 .RTF files which are placeholders/instructions on how to download Melodyne and Addictive Drums 2 from their respective websites.

I'll try and remember to take a peep next time I'm in there.
