Re: Cakewalk SONAR is dropping numbered version releases

Having to re-register products I already own, even though the version doesn't seem to have changed (other than maybe minor point release).

Sluiggishness seems to have subsided, as if a background task had finished. Before you leap to shout "Scanning for VSTs" that seemed to have finished ages ago.

Audio defaulted to MME, which I didn't twig at first. Couldn't figure out why sound was stuttering. As soon as I spotted this and changed it back to ASIO, everything was fine again. Pretty bad it doesn't pick up previous Sonar settings.

Not tested any of the new features. Nearly 6 hours in, I need some sleep. I'll pick this up again in a couple of days.

Geez.

Well, I still haven't upgraded. Probably for the best, it seems. Will keep up on how it's coming along for you though, for sure.

Re: Cakewalk SONAR is dropping numbered version releases

Yep, Melodyne is proper gubbed. Doesn't show up as a region effect any more. Working on it now.

EDIT:

Uninstalled Melodyne and the Runtime from the control panel, went to CC download folder and manually reinstalled. Just installing without doing the uninstall doesn't work because CC has cocked up the install path and autococked it into the wrong location. By doing the uninstall, next time you run the Celemony install, it will actually prompt for folder paths etc.

However, still not showing up as a region effect, can do it by inserting effect. Another fail, Cakewalk. Another fail.

Re: Cakewalk SONAR is dropping numbered version releases

Looks like the thread I made on the Cakewalk official forums has been quietly removed.

I guess they don't like being told that Command Center is garbage and being shown (mostly) how to work around it.

EDIT:

If I install only the VST3 64bit version of Melodyne, Sonar Platinum does not seem to detect it. I wonder if SP is having problems detecting or showing VST3 plugins.

Interesting: X3 still detects Melodyne as a region effect.

Re: Cakewalk SONAR is dropping numbered version releases

Yeh, looks like this pile of shite is not picking up VST3 Audio Effects. Now I'm looking for them, none seem to be appearing on the drop down menus at all, despite folder locations not having changed in the slightest.

These sound extremely similar to my experience with sonar X3 from steam. I'm thinking they just suck at digital releases.

Re: Cakewalk SONAR is dropping numbered version releases

Pointed SP at the VST3 folder X3 had created and all VST3s became visible again. Simple problem & solution but shouldn't have been there at all.

Uninstalled Melodyne. Noticed that it does not remove any files, folders or entries in the registry. Manually went through all the obvious install locations and also removed any registry entries.

Reinstalled Melodyne. Shows up in the VST2 list of audio effects, but not VST3. Still no Region FX.

For anyone wondering why I'm going mental at this for not showing in Region FX, its a process thing. If you insert it as an effect, you have to go through the 'Translate' feature to get the audio to appear in Melodyne and it takes time. If it appears as Region FX, then the audio clip is automatically imported into Melodyne ready for you to edit.

Re: Cakewalk SONAR is dropping numbered version releases

Tried to load the SI Bass Guitar plugin. Got an error that it failed to load and the error message showed the expected path to the plugin. Went and checked to see if the plugin was there. It was sitting right were it should have been and matched the path and filename in the error message.

Re: Cakewalk SONAR is dropping numbered version releases

I think I'll take a break from this. Going nowhere and I don't dare re-install because of Command Center.

The problem with Melodyne seems to be that although it installs ok, Sonar Platinum is not picking it up as a VST3. You only get a plugin as an ARA if Sonar first detects it as VST3 then deems it compatible for use as ARA. So the problem seems to be with the basic detection. Because thats internal to Sonar, there doesn't seem to be a way around it through moving files or registry hacking that I've found yet.

Rapture's been going through a 'I don't know what that is' period in Sonar but I've got it working now.

I am now wondering if the reason I haven't seen too much in the way of issues with Sonar's latest incarnation because Cakewalk have been deleting threads like they did with mine if someone comes up with a major cockblocking issue. Now that I'm looking for it I am seeing other people reporting the same issue with Melodyne but not seen a consistent working solution yet for those asking.

EDIT: Gone back to working in X3. No problems with Melodyne and I can make progress on pre-existing tracks which I'm working on.

Hello

Stercogburn (Roo Stercogburn) posted in the Sonar forums linking to this thread recently.

I notice here he has complaints of censorship in the Sonar forums and he says his thread was deleted (note he never raised this as an issue in the Sonar forums).

And yet his thread still exists, as I'm new to these forums I am unable to post a link, please add "h t t p : //" in front of the below text, then copy/paste:

forum.cakewalk.com/Command-Center-Garbage-m3187154.aspx

Notice the last post in that thread was made 22 hours ago. I suspect this just disappeared onto the next page of the thread list, and he just next bother to turn the page, or look it up in his own post list.

This is the first and probably the last post I will make in these forums. I just wanted to correct some obvious disinformation.

Thankyou....

My thread didn't show up in my search when I had gone back to the forums. Perhaps there's a limitation in the Cakewalk forum's search engine that does not allow it to search for the words "garbage" or "melodyne". Or is there a very large delay in indexing? Anyway, my points on, and experience with, the product itself remain valid.

I've spent most of this evening working in X3. I've been editing a lot of Grain Bastard's awesome AEP stems in Melodyne, which at this current time is not possible using Sonar Platinum.

I think its pretty reasonable that when I spend over £100 to expect it to work as advertised. SP failed straight out of the starting gate and searching in general around the net showed people experiencing SP's interaction with Melodyne in the same way as me.

The various iterations of Sonar have always had problems at launch but this is the worst to date by quite a spectacular amount. I have no doubt a lot of the issues will be ironed out in time but at *this* time Command Center is not fit for purpose. SP installation and VST interaction is gash. It doesn't matter if the issue lies in Melodyne or Sonar, it is a bundled product and clearly Cakewalk haven't tested it in anything but the most basic configuration i.e. muppets that put everything on the C: drive and hope they never have a hardware failure.

Just because you can't find the thread this does not give you the right to post here saying that Cakewalk deleted it. Cakewalk is not responsible for you not being able to find your own thread. The search facility has nothing to do with it. You jumped to conclusions that were unfounded, you never once launched a complaint saying (incorrectly) that the thread was deleted rather you ran over here and posted it.

There are about two or three posts here where you've said Cakewalk deleted the thread, I would hope you will be able to correct them now at this point.

Thankyou...

Whilst I am here I would like to add a comment about Cakewalk command centre. If you want a more balanced perspective I suggest you click on the thread below I quoted.

It's not garbage, it's not buggy, it's just lacking in features which are bound to be improved at some point as Sonar is on a monthly cycle. What we have here is exaggeration beyond extreme.

Thanks...

Yawn.,.. Ah yes it's a conspiracy...
Total baloney if you look at the timestamps of his comments and the posters on the other thread.
Also note I was particularly agreeing with the OP on that thread so next time why don't you bother to read it.

I don't have permissions to delete threads in those forums, you just made it all up as you know. Besides I doubt people would view that thread as particularly important, esp. Next time try to back up your accusations with facts.

Saying censorship is happening in forums, when censorship isn't happening is NOT PETTY and NOT AN OPINION. It is a either lie or a misguided mistake.

Otherwise he can say what he likes as long as he sticks to the facts rather than inventions. I think you will find my responses in the thread I quote are pretty well balanced. I actually agreed with him, I just disagreed with his conclusions.

Was looking back through the thread, and saw this. I was thinking about this earlier. You're not wrong here.

No, it's not going to be $500 every year (at least not after the first year, and not for current users), but it does seem to be getting more expensive.

IIRC, my upgrade from X1 to 2 was $99, and they were still doing yearly releases at the time. But for X3 they said that they were changing to an 18-month cycle and the price went up. So, the upgrade from X2 to 3 was $149. Now after this time they're going back to yearly, as the one-time payment is equivalent to a year membership... but the price went up again to $199? Of course it's even more expensive if you opt for the month-to-month option. Not way more expensive, but still.

Bah. Makes me want to throw my arms in the air and shout, "THANKS GIBSON!"
