Was wondering where some of you guys who have been doing this for a while get your album, single or ep artwork done? Do you guys pull in a friend, find someone on CL, have someone from your label do it, or DIY?
I used to make my own album arts until I decided that I really suck at it, so I'm not going to do such things again. Hopefully, label will solve this in the future.
DiY most definitely these days. I'm far from a pro at ps but i've been bastardizing images long enough with it to know the basics of making something look good enough i think
CL=Craig's List...its like an uncensored/unmoderated online buy/sell/trade/personals
I usually do my own artwork. Likewise, I've been around photoshop long enough to make something look decent...if that doesn't work I just snap a B&W picture of an alley or something and drop the text on top ;p
Honestly Craig's List is kind of shady these days so I wasn't sure Garruden meant that by CL at first myself.
There are places like fiverr.com as well where you can get services like graphic design as well. I know forum member @RFJ had some great luck getting inexpensive artwork through there for his last release.

I did :p
I'm trying to figure out what I want to do for my material. I kind of want to use some of the photographs I've taken but am trying to figure out the text/adding geometrical layers and such. Trying to figure out whether to teach myself or outsource.
Over the last 4 years I've been self learning photography, photoshop and logo designing to do album covers and artwork for myself, it's a good thing to learn how to do! I'd recommend going down that route to save money and to save yourself from copyright
different artist I know personally and deviant art, but I think I will have to stop deviant art the more popular I get. Unless I have permission which I do for most things, but I dont for some.
I thought I'd come back and share that I ended up using www.canva.com for my album art. Works pretty well for a free program and made the art on my sc with it.
I try to do my own as much as possible. I've made a lot for individual tracks, especially for the songs in my first album. The two full albums I've made have had original artwork. However, for an album I am working on now, a friend (graphic design student) has offered to help. I'm also planning a concept album that will be an edit of a screencap from a documentary.
