Icon5 Converting FLAC on a Mac? freeware?

What's the easiest freeware for converting FLAC to MP3 or M4A on an Apple Mac?

I don't have a Mac but my family members do and they need a way to get FLACs onto their iPods easily? I don't want to do the conversion for them... I want to lead them to a freeware program they could use on their own to convert them.

Any ideas? Can you recommend something that a kid or a senior citizen might be able to use instead of a full editor?

My general answer to all of this would be Audacity. Might need a separate encoder plugin. Good program to have for audio mangling, even for just casual purposes.

Re: Converting FLAC on a Mac? freeware?

Any Video Converter Free (I still can't post links, so Google it and it's the "anvsoft(dot)com" site) is what I use to convert FLAC to mp3 on Windows. If I remember correctly, it's fairly simple to use - you just drag FLAC files onto it and then select mp3 as the output (there are quality settings, but once you've set them up once they'll be remembered the next time you use the program). Looks like they have a mac version as well, so it might be worth checking out.

edit: The one thing I'm not sure AVC can do is maintain metadata between formats that support it. I've always had to add my own metadata after converting to mp3, but it could just be that none of the FLACs I've gotten have had metadata.

I use XLD for any audio conversion purpose.

(weird that it's not the first thing that pop up in google when you type "audio converter mac" in google or whatever, not being sarcastic)

Did the mac version not work? I've only used the Windows version, but it looks like they have pretty much the same features.

Re: Converting FLAC on a Mac? freeware?

Thanks guys. @Greenstorm33: I must have overlooked the Mac version; I only saw the Windows version. @fontlame: Thanks for the XLD tip. That looks like what they/I could use.

If it works out OK on my mom's computer, I'll keep it.

The program 'Switch' does quit a good job imo and it's free I think.
