Icon4 ABLETON LIVE: User/FAQ thread

This is the Ableton LIVE master thread.

All questions, comments, issues, and tutorials or templates should be placed in this thread from here out.

If you have a specific issue with hardware, which might be a bit more time-sensitive, feel free to post a new thread in the studio. If we see the issue resolved we may merge it into this thread for cataloging purposes.

-Permutated

And on a further note from gbsr:

Quote:
OK. So you have a problem with Live. Perhaps you have a request?
Whatever you have, the basic rule is this:

Do the built-in Lessons, and Read the manual.

If you're lazy and don't want to traverse the whole manual, opening your .pdf viewer of choice and hitting ctrl+f (or cmd+f) will bring up a search. So lets say that you don't know how to set your monitor to "in" (yeah, press the "in" button), you hit up the manual and search for monitor.

When you have done this and perhaps went on a Google adventure, then you can come here and ask questions.

Re: ableton...looking for beginners guide

when you 1st launch live ( in prevous versions anyway) it launches a tutorial pane on the right hand side. this runs through the basics and should give you a good start

heres a getting started guide with downloadable file containing live set and samples

Re: ableton...looking for beginners guide

I felt exactly the same as you when I first used Ableton. Luckily a friend lent me this: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]
. It's not a book but a video tutorial to run on your PC alongside Live. If you know nothing about the program this is the perfect thing to get you going as it goes straight from the bottom up and it makes everything seem so simple.

If you're unsure of what Live can do for you, then I'd suggest to look at the videos on the Ableton site itself as they offer a great insight as to the possiblities - [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]
.

Thirdly, and this a great tip with any bit of software, check youTube! There are countless vids with tips and tricks and demonstrations of things!

Re: ableton...looking for beginners guide

you could check out the tutorials at their official site.
you could do the included lessons that ships with live.
you could read the manual.

Re: ableton...looking for beginners guide

thanks a lot all i needed. But youtube surprisingly has less beginners tutorials on Ableton than you think.

By the way, Hi i'm Rusty! Been makin drum n' base on Acid/F-L for a while but just recently stepped up with the purchase of Ableton. If I find any more good video tutorials i'll post em here.

yeah all Shane Meadows films are great (check out 'Dead Mans Shoes' simply brilliant), much better director than Madonna's bitch, Guy.

The next film on your torrent list should be

"Rise of the Foot Soldier"

Good info,

I myself I'm more use to traditional ways of music making (guitar and drummer)..

Looks like I have some good reading ahead of me.

Rise of the Foot Soldier. Fucking amazing film.
I love the gangstar movie from this side of the pond. They are always really classy in a strange way
