Icon5 Breakbeat Tips 'n Tricks?

So I attempted a bit of breakbeat by using a classic drum break, beat grids, filter sweeps, delays etc, but I pretty much ended up with [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]
. Anyone got any pointers/tips/tricks that can help me get better making breakbeat? Do I have the right ideas/heading in right direction? etc

Thanks!!!

Doesnt sound bad, add some more to it (as in longer than 16 bars) and throw some melody on it. Maybe take it up a few notches in intensity when the melody comes in, or take it down a few notches if that's what you're into.

Re: Breakbeat Tips 'n Tricks?

Thanks. I might start a new project though because the sample I used for this is of really bad quality.

Re: Breakbeat Tips 'n Tricks?

In a strange way i kind of liked it.
I would recommend two things that are easy, i would refrain from stopping the notes to soon, as in letting your snares ring out for their full value. I think that's what made it sound so 'messy'.
Also, to give a true syncopated vibe, try having the offbeat snare pitched a little differently, and a little more quiet, this makes the beat flow a little better.

Keep trying, man.
(If you listen to my sig tune, theres a nice breakbeat with live samples you might like )
