Id track from ambient online radio?

I listen to RadioIo ambient through WinAmp player, and there is no description of the tracks they're playing... only the number of the set being played, which doesn't mean anything to me either. There was a song I heard today; it started with French/German quick electronic classic synth sounds (similar to Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygen & Equinox); and then in the middle of the song it blended into traditional acoustic instruments, although you could still hear on the background in the distant space the synths still functioning. That was a good song. Does anyone know it? Thanks.

Wow... I can think of about 100 tracks right away that might apply to. Do you have anything else besides that?

That's a crime that they don't give track IDs. Lame.

Re: Id track from ambient online radio?

Starts very fast: Electronic particle bombardment from everywhere.
Example of similar songs:
1) Jean Michel Jarre -- Oxygen 5 (middle of the song, around the 5th minute)
2) Solar Fields -- Electric Fluid (3rd minute)
3) Khooman -- Let me out (toward the end of the song)
4) Free system project -- some songs

Then it blended to the acoustic instruments that were trying to mimic the fast electronics, and I think the song finished blending back into the electronics. Nice genre bender.

If I hear the song through another online radio station (that lists their songs), I'll come back and post the name.

Got it! The song is from 1986: older than most users here! (I did find a playlist on the Radioio website)
Michael Shrieve - Transfer Station Blue -- 12 min.

Heh heh... I just found the playlist too.... and was just about to post the same thing.

I actually have that album on vinyl from the mid 80s - it's worth finding if you like that sound. Tangerine Dream + jazz-funk... His album with Steve Roach "The Leaving Time" is much more electronic, and absolutely fantastic.

Glad you found it!

Re: Id track from ambient online radio?

I did preview The Leaving Time... too moody for me.
I like Tangerine Dream's Ricochet 1 & 2 (only the electronic part), and a few other songs from them. I think I don't like them that much because their songs' beat is not too sustained; I like to have some type of framework behind the sound... some sort of a repetitive tempo, whether it's jazz, or classic baroque or electronic doesn't matter that much; but I like to have some steadiness in the structure.

I couldn't find anything in particular for Tangerine Dream + Jazz Funk... just some Hip-hop songs. Anything specific you had in mind?

Re: Id track from ambient online radio?

Sorry about that, O... I meant that the rest of Transfer Station Blue somewhat resembles Tangerine Dream plus jazz-funk.
"Ricochet" is from the mid-70's... I personally recommend TD's early 80's output. My faves: "White Eagle", "Exit", "Le Parc" and "Poland".

Re: Id track from ambient online radio?

Hello,

I am new to the Forum and Ambient music as well. I currently stream RadioIo / Ambient by Forrest. However, for some reason he refuses to list anything about the music - no artist names, no song titles, no album info..is there any way I can find out the songs he plays as some of them are really good and I would like to obtain them?

Many thanks in advance to fellow Forum Members..

paul
