Future garage thread.

Started here: http://www.idmforums.com/showthread.php?t=87931, now it's here.

I love this.

and if it counts, of course;

Maybe none of these songs are future garage though, I dunno, I'm new to this genre.

Re: Future Garage Thread

I always thought future garage and post-dubstep were the same thing? I'm probably wrong, but all those tracks up there are sick either way.

Fucking genre names man...

Re: Future Garage Thread

Lots of the new Boxcutter - The Dissolve LP is apparently Future Garage. It's the only exposure I have had to the genre so I'm not sure if it sums up what others are doing in the scene (probably not as it is Boxcutter)...whatever it is, it sounds well good to me and I'd love to hear more similar stuff.

This one is from the Allele 12":

Good to hear that "IDM" isn't the dumbest name for a genre anymore.

Edit: is it just me or is Burial to dubstep what Photek was to dnb?

Boxcutter's doing his own thing man...Merges so many influences in that album, so many styles. It's horribly underrated. A big step up from Arecibo Message imo.

The whole 'Future Garage' movement, if you want to call it that, encapsulates such a wide range of sound that honestly, I think it's probably fine as a name. If you start trying to classify things further then the sound will just start becoming more rigid, more restricted. 'Future Garage' and 'Post-Dubstep' is currently about bringing the best bits of all electronic styles together. I'd like to see it stay that way.

Re: Future Garage Thread

^^ See i could maybe meet you half way on that if i liked these horrible booty bounce sped-up rnb beats but i can't fucking stand them, so by default you're wrong imo.
It's funny how people who like this stuff totally overlook that.
Again, it reminds me of the dnb revolution, every track pretty much has to have a similar beat, every pop track has to try to have a dubstep remix so that looking back we'll know it was 2011, i could go on, but i probably sound unhip enough already so i wont.

Re: Future Garage Thread

I dunno man, there's a few artists categorised under this sound who use traditional house beats, jungle breaks, all sorts. Maybe it doesn't incorporate everything just yet and probably never will (probably went a bit far in the last post) but I still think the sound makes for a refreshing change.

Re: Future Garage Thread

Yeah, don't get me wrong, i know it's not ALL the same but you have to admit that a lot of (at least early/traditional) dubstep (before it fragmented into all those other mini-genres) is based on that rnb/garage beat which, unfortunately has never appealed to me in the least.
Isn't that how we know it's dubstep?

Oh i dunno, i'm on the outside looking in, i can admit that, but from here it seems that a lot of the people on the inside don't bother to look outside is what i think i mean.
Probably not the easiest idea to discuss on a forum without just sounding like a hater, dunno.

Yeah, but this isn't dubstep.

Maybe you're right. But I'd like to think there's more to this than one specific 'inside' sound.

Fuck it, music is subjective after all eh

Re: Future Garage Thread

this shit's basically just oldschool garage with some new influences and a silly name. at it's worst it can be unbearably slick and boring but there's plenty of good stuff to be found.

pariah's probably my favourite dude making music at the moment. haven't heard anything from him yet that isn't stunning.

If you can guide me towards any oldschool stuff that's sort of in this vain I'd appreciate it, been searching for some garage recently and until I searched for this stuff because of Lebeux's song I was coming up empty, most of what I found wasn't too great.

Liked this though

Re: Future Garage Thread

i'm no expert on the oldschool stuff tbh. i've listened to a couple of zed bias mixes that were really good, definitely worth checking out.

this song's a classic

a lot of the bassy proto-dubstep stuff is quite fun as well
