What about Trans Canada Highway? Or was it released before Campfire Headphase? Anyway I love their music very much. Very deep & psychedelic. My favourite album is Geogaddi, but I really love all their stuff. Sorry 4 mistakes I'm from Russia and my English is not in good state.
I think Trans Canada Highway did come out after Campfire Headphase...I think it's an EP (a true extended play, as a matter of fact) of the Campfire Headphase... I haven't heard any of that one though...
I'd have to say that my favorite remains to be Geogaddi as well...I have an original promo poster for the release of that album (18.02.02) hanging in my studio...
I'd have to say that one of my favourite tracks from The Campfire Headphase is 'Macquarie Ridge' from the Japanese version. To me, it almost forms a bridge between the album and 'Trans Canada Highway'.
yeah BOC are great, Campfire Headphase / Geogaddi are among my favorite albums. it's funny though, sometimes I'd be watching Adult Swim or whatever, and when they have those parts inbetween commercials where it's white text and black background, I'd hear like Constants Are Changing or Slow This Bird Down. kinda got me off guard.
another weird thing was that I went around for months thinking that their song Dawn Chorus was by Squarepusher ;(
I suppose 'Music Has The Right To Children' would be the most obvious choice. Or maybe just take everything that they've done (that's commercially available, that is), chronologically if you've the time and inclination. 'Twoism' onwards is an interesting trip.
Campfire HP is less noisy, less experimental, easier to listen to, more general-audiences listening, which doesn't make it bad, just a little less adventurous. Definitely worth your time, but if you want something deeper and more experimental/challenging/trippy, Music Has The RTC is where it's at.
Great Scottish Band. You probably don't realise when you first listen to them how many other ambient IDM artists are out there trying to do the same thing since Music Has The Right To Children came out, and almost none of them manage to become peers or BoC, failing to do anything as beautiful.
The only other artists or groups out there that I can think of that challenge BoC in their own subgenre are Casino Versus Japan, or Freescha. Funnily CvJ did an album with Freescha not too long ago. I can't find the bloody album for love nor money, though!
