Books, Sources, Links

Seeing as how I just bought two new books on computer music cheaply, I figured I'd start a thread where we can aggregate our common library of links, books and other sources of information on our wide ranging area of interest.

I plan on maintaining this list. So a few expectations are in order for everyone concerned:

Do's
  • Add links that are directly related to an area of interest to IDMf members
  • Add books to the list that you feel are worth buying or reading or both - publication details are helpful if you can include them
  • Suggest other useful sources of information, on-line or otherwise (DVD's, CD's, magazines)
  • Suggest places to get this stuff, cheaply if at all possible
  • Informed critiques on anything in the list - limitations, usefulness, application today, etc

Dont's
  • No Trolling - I will delete the message and negative rep you.
  • No Gratuitous messages (thanks for the list, thanks to individuals, etc) - I will delete the message.
  • Please avoid linking to an existing message in the Forums - if it is worth including the content of a post in this list, copy and paste it or PM me and I'll integrate it into the master list.

I expect that this list will grow as we get our collective heads around it. I will occasionally clean it up and pull together bits and pieces into the master lists and maybe even begin sub-categories for quick access: Mastering, Mixing, Composition techniques, Music theory, Software reviews, Gear overviews, How to use.... (compression, EQ, limiters, reverb, etc).

I also expect that I will be trawling the forums over the next few months pulling all the individual threads together into a single source.

I am reserving the next three posts after this one to create the master list.

Cheers

Shane

Cheap books with free postage. Terrific selection of books. If they don't have it, they recommend other places to look.

Books We Should Read

I was doing some searching on the internet on the way to improve my production skills and i came upon TranceAddicts. I was looking over their threads and I noticed a book thread. I think we need one too because this is a great way for people to better them selfs. I am currently in the process of reading books, and i gotta tell you, it has a MAJOR impact on your production. I recommend we all post books on which will helps us with our production. I will start off, here is what i have so far(I still haven't read them but I am in the process and the books seem good).

The Dance Music Manual Second Edition(2009):
The basics and intermediates of everything you should know about dance music production. Some of the stuff is not exactly up to date, but gives good info on basics.

The Complete Idiot's Guide To Music Theory(2005):
Pretty sure the title is self explanatory.

ModernBeats-Hit-Theory(2008):
A book on hip-hop production(I don't even know why i have that)

Aldwell, Schachter - Harmony and Voice Leading 3rd Edtion(2002 edit):
A university level book on Harmony and Voice leads.

Creative Sequencing Techniques for Music Production (2005):
An id-dept explanation of the four main sequencers used in professional production environments—
ProTools, Digital Performer, Cubase SX, and Logic Pro—and how to get the most out of
them, by explaining and revealing advanced techniques such as groove quantizing, sounds
layering, tap tempo, creative meter and tempo changes, advanced use of plug-ins automation,
and synchronization of linear and nonlinear machines, just to mention a few. (Taken from the book preface)

Anyone else?
