Your favorite pop song

What's that one mother fucker that you like to listen to when you crave the catchiness and don't give a damn how simple it is?

For me I'll go with Flashdance's Maniac

Re: Your favorite pop song

Does it have to be what most of us would think of as a pop artist or just something that gets played on a radio station that's supported by ads? (I specify that last bit about radio stations because we have both classical and jazz stations where I live, but they're supported by donations).

Re: Your favorite pop song

Hmm. Hard to choose. So many from many different decades and styles. I'll just go with one I was listening to recently:

Perfect pop. Catchy, ridiculous and yet still has some great synth in it. Also, miming guitars when there's no guitar playing in a song never gets old. Linked this version because although there are higher quality vids around this one at least had the video and audio reasonably in sync.

This mind intentionally blank.

It does not have to be a pop artist specifically. I'm just talking about pop style songs which can be anything from Take on Me to About a Girl.

Legitimately good track released about two years ago. Although, I don't remember it getting much love when it came out. which is a bit of a shame because it's actually really good.

Man you weren't kidding. I have a general disdain for modern pop so I definitely sleep on stuff like this but it surprised me and I enjoyed it.

Re: Your favorite pop song

This has had a bit of a radio comeback around where I live recently, I had never heard it before and thought it might be a new song that had really nailed the 80s punk sound. Nope, turns out this is just what I think of when I think about what 80s punk sounded like. If this isn't mainstream enough, then:

And if that's not mainstream enough then:

Because I actually listen to a lot of radio (having an hour commute and no smartphone does that to you).
BONUS: That last song came off the same label as Rainbow, one of my fav metal bands. Music is a nutty business.

Well to me it's less about how mainstream it is and more about that 'pop' style. Obviously Lights is the most generic out of all of these but I enjoyed it as much as the rest. Thanks so much for suggesting Violent Femmes > gonna go check them out now

Re: Your favorite pop song

There are sooooo many for me.

And yes. Everytime a Rickroll happens, I'm thrilled!

I don't know if this is in category, but a lot of people seem to think it's poppy and terrible...I just know it's awesome.

I can keep going for ages on this kind of tangent...I love catchy pop music.
But I'll stop here for now. :p

Cheers!

THIS, don't post some noise just because you heard it on the radio, you know you're cheating.

Re: Your favorite pop song

This was the jam when I was in high school:

And yes...I legitimately liked this song an awful lot and will still listen to it in the car on the radio. Turn up the volume even.

Have a couple of his albums actually..

And for an even more mainstream one, though that Weeknd one has 1 billion views,

@relic - I own some sum41 - they are actually pretty good. They have a nice heavy older style punk sound even though they are newer.
