Binaural beat tones?

I have been experimenting with this lately. I generate binaural tones in Audacity by changing the pitch in the right or left stereo stream to create the third beat frequency. I use the reference guide on lunar site for a reference guide to brainwave frequencies and effects of targeted frequencies.

Usually it sounds fine over speakers too. Sometimes I test both mono streams without panning first to make sure it sounds good on both, and then pan them and make sure it works there too.

It's cool stuff.

I am always open to learning more.

Re: Binaural beat tones?

2 instances of pure sine at low frequencies around 100 hz, 3xOSC is just fine
first panned 100% left +5 hertz shift (yes hertz not semitone)
second 100% right -5 hertz
found this vst is very useful for that

I made [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]
a while ago, if you want to delve into how I do it.

There's also a M4L device that does it for you (if you use Live), but I like automating them for even more mayhem.

Re: Binaural beat tones?

I was experimenting with sines a few years back, as well as phase (and how Soundcloud visually displays that):

Re: Binaural beat tones?

Different amounts of difference between the channels have different effects for creating ELF and ULF beat frequencies. 0.9 hertz is exciting. 1 hertz creates a sense of well being. 2 hertz stimulates the brain. 2.3 hertz allegedly affects the genitals. 2.5 allegedly releases endorphins and dopamine. 7.86 resonates with the earth. You can't hear these frequencies, but you can hear the illusion of them via beat frequencies. The mental reproduction of them is thought to affect us in similar ways.

And then there is just targeted frequencies that do not need to rely on beat frequencies.

I think you need to be snorting crystals for all of that to work. My gonads haven't been rattled yet

Also, don't you make death industrial or something? Wouldn't that shit give you cancer, technically?

Re: Binaural beat tones?

Some people are more responsive to the effects of sound. A mild dopamine release from sound isn't going to compare to a hit of something stronger....not without a powerful reuptake inhibitor.

I actually kind of like using ambient and noise to keep people feeling calm and alert through disturbing content.
