Festival Goers/Campers: Solar solution for music?

Hey all,

Each summer I participate in a week long arts and music festival. Pretty much my only complaint is that during down time I'd like to be able to listen to my own music. Unfortunately there are not good options for charging devices or electric campsites (the few that exist are only available for people who need them for medical reasons).

Anyone know of a good, moderately priced solution for either: charging cell phones and a bluetooth speaker OR a solar boombox with an Aux In/Bluetooth. The boombox would idealy charge cell phones as well.

If the weather is good, we will have plenty of intense sunlight all week.

I guess my budget is around 200 dollars. I'm splitting it with a friend. I think we might stretch it to 300 if it was a really awesome solution. Even if we could get 3-4 hours a day of our own music, that'd be fabulous!

Re: Festival Goers/Campers: Solar solution for music?

For festivals I much prefer second hand tape/cd boomboxes in smaller formats, I don't have to care if they get lost or broken/dirty. The battery time is usually very good on them and you get a reason to make a proper mixtape again. Bring some extra batteries and you are all set.

There are also real cheap chargers for phones about the size of a thick pen easy to bring along, I think they hold for 1/2 charges but you could get a few of them.

^^ You're talking bullshit you hipster.
Those old units took massive expensive batteries and lasted no time at all if you wanted any volume.

Re: Festival Goers/Campers: Solar solution for music?

get one of those jumpboxes from an auto parts store, or the auto section at walmart. You can charge it via electrical outlet before you leave. Most of them have usb ports now, as well as sockets for wall warts, so you could run anything for a while. Bonus, if your car battery dies, you can jump it.

And some are made so you can charge them from a car battery as well as an electrical outlet so you might be able to get one you can charge on the spot if you use it up. Theres a bunch of different kinds with various options.

Anybody can be good at something but it takes real effort to suck as bad as I do.
