Ableton 9.5 + new Push

Motherfuckers! How did they suddenly jump from 9.2 to 9.5?!

[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]

And dammit... new Push... And trade-in of old Push to save 30% although it would probably be more profitable to sell my old one. Need moar money!

Re: Ableton 9.5 + new Push

Analog filters from Cytomic. If these are anywhere near as good as The Drop, this will be bloody amazing. Simpler, Sampler, Operator and Auto Filter just got a lot better, not that they weren't great to begin with.

Better-zooming waveforms are okay, and auto-colouring new clips based on the track colour is great. Auto-colouring tracks is okay as well. Updated meters with both RMS and peak is handy.

Didn't have the old push, not sure I'll get the new one either. It does seem alluring, though.

Re: Ableton 9.5 + new Push

Basically it's the new screen that I want. SO much better than the LCD dot matrix style.

I don't think I could afford the trade-in anyway, so. Old push for me. :U

Yeah, totally agree. Although it would probably be cheaper selling the old one for slightly over half price than to use the 30% trade-in. I still don't have the cash though so I'll also have to live with the "old" one, which to be fair is still a fucking good tool anyway.

Re: Ableton 9.5 + new Push

Well I just pulled the trigger on it! And upgraded to live suite!
That should lay to rest any desire to get an mpc1000! Finally sample editing on push
This is pretty bad ass and the perfect timing for me!

Yeah sample editing was always one of the features that Maschine but Push doesn't. It's nice but I'm not sure I really need it.

Re: Ableton 9.5 + new Push

from the video demo it seems beautiful, sample editing on that beautiful color lcd simply rocks

anyway, new push 2 hardware is engineered by ableton, the old push was made by akai... I think I'll wait for some review before upgrading...

anyway new push is 700 euro while old was 500. 30% money back for the trade means they give you 210 euro for your old push. not sure is a deal (if not for ableton, at least)...

Wow, I hadn't even checked the prices but that's stupid. Hardware wise I do not see why it should suddenly be that much more expensive... Seems like a bad deal then, yeah. I think I'll stick with my old one and maybe wait for Push3 or until my kids have moved out and I have cash again. So most likely another 18 years or so, lol

Re: Ableton 9.5 + new Push

Ableton gives me 210 € for my old Push... not sure if that's worth it.
The new Push also seems to be more expensive: 700 € versus 500 € I paid (but perhaps that was with my education discount? Not sure).

Live also became much more expensive: prices [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]
versus [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]
.

Tech specs: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]
vs [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]

Push 2 is bigger: 378 x 304 mm vs 370 x 293 mm. Height is pretty much the same, the encoders are a bit smaller.
Weight is exactly(?) the same.

Push 1 was engineered by Akai, Push 2 is completely Ableton. Will it have the same quality?
Didn't expect Ableton to start doing hardware as well. I guess it's a somewhat logical move to do everything in-house, but do they have the expertise?

The screen is really cool. Curious if it will be possible to access it through M4L.

What's up with the power requirements? Push 2 uses a 12V 1,25A adapter, but also works bus-powered. Will LEDs be bright enough at USB power (5V 0,5A)? Push only needed a 6V 1A adapter for brighter LEDs. So that's 6W -> 15W! Perhaps the screen needs a lot of power?
[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click here to register]
, big concern for me because I hate having to plug in yet another adapter every time.

Another weird thing in the FAQ:

This is caused by a hardware limitation. However, the lag is only visual, and the devices controlled with it will react much more immediately.
A hardware limitation on a 700 € box?

Probably indicates a different implementation of the touch strip: in Push 1 the touchstrip and the feedback LEDs always work, even if Live isn't running. This indicates this is an independent piece of hardware.
In Push 2 they probably configured it so the feedback is handled in software (Live), the extra round trip causes lag. But it gives more flexibility because the software has total control over the LEDs while previously a part was hard-coded in hardware.
But still... lag on an instrument kills the experience.

Won't buy before I've read/seen some reviews. And even then, not sure if it is worth it. It would be again 500 € for the same thing with some improvements.

Yes some very valid points. Especially concerning build quality. I always thought Akai was a very good choice due to their experience in building controllers which is something completely new for Ableton.

The standard price for Push was 500. I think the edu discount only applies to the software. I also can't imagine the screen being worth 200 more. Either Ableton does not get as good deals as Akai does with Chinese manufacturers which I kinda doubt or they just want to profit more or it actually costs them more to develop as it's a new field for them...

Either way I'm looking forward to the first few reviews by experienced users.

I'm curious, how do folks feel about Push vs Maschine?

Any live users perhaps even use both?

Don't see anything I can't do with a Maschine and if you will an extra MIDI-Controller for a few more knobs in ableton. (f.e. bcr2000)
